When to buff protectants

For best appearance when do you buff (or wipe dry) Natural Shine or NXT Tech Protect? The directions say to "wipe off the excess". When I apply the product with an applicator there really is no excess; there is a wet film of the product. Some folks have said let it sit for two or three minutes and then wipe. It would seem to me that you are wiping off quite a bit of the product if you wipe it when it is wet. Should you buff it after it dries. I guess that you can tell that I'm an "exterior guy", not an "interior guy".

By the way which product is really "better" NXT Tech Protech or Natural Shine. The NXT is about $2.00 more per bottle. Do you get what you pay for?

I like give a quick wipe to remove the excess, I use a clean cotton or MF towel. I think it tones down the shine a little and evens out the look. Once you have done this there is still plenty of protectant on the surface and it looks great. Now I use to use Natural Shine but it has been sometime and can't compare it to NXT Tech Protectant, I am sure others can.

Now if you do a per ounce price NXT Tech Protectant ends up the better 'deal'.

What I do is apply the protectant to the entire interior and when I'm finished I start buffing the excess with a mf. I've had great results with these steps.

Same thing with trim, except I use a different product.

On my interior I alternate between NXT Tech Protectant one wash and the next Quik Interior Detailer, I really like the look of QID but the lack of UV protection makes me move between the two.

I'm still "dinkin'" around with this interior stuff. A couple more questions/comments:

1) None of these products -- Quick Interior Detailer, NXT Protec Protectant, Natural Shine, #39, #49, etrc, actually penetrate hard plastic, right? They lift off dirt and grime and leave a layer of protection on the surface, right?

2) Because all of these product clean as well as protect, they cannot be layered and you do not have to worry about product buildup from frequent use, right?

3) QID will not remove NXT, Natural Shine, #40, etc., right?

4) What is the best way to get a good even gloss/shine across the whole surface under all lighting conditions? What product does the best job of accomplishing this?

4) Is a 3-5 minute wait about the right amount of time to allow before wiping off the the area that has the protectant (Not QID) on it.

5) Does it really make a difference whether you use microfiber or terry cloth for wiping off the protectant?


So far in my "messing around", The NXT Protec Protectant is giving me the best results. However under certain lighting conditions, the shine is not quite even across the surface of the dash. (I think that I had better just drive rather than look at my dash or I'm likely to need body work on the exterior of my truck )

1) With the actual "hard glossy plastic", most of the product applied will probably wipe off as excess. But on hard textured plastic, it will give it all a nice look. They will remove light dirt, but actual grime would need more of a cleaner, then top with the protectant.

2) Never had buildup for me.

3) Well, based on how I treat my car, it seems that QID applied to a cloth and used as more of a duster, wont remove the rich look of the Nxt. Little less glossy though.

4) Spray on a MF towel, and wipe around everywhere. Come back in 5-10 minutes and buff off. Unfortunately, vinyl isn't necessarily uniform all over, but you should get pretty even look that way.

5) I like 5 minutes or so.... Maybe it is my imagination, but a lil longer gives a bit richer of a look.

6) Probably not, but I use some general purpose MF cloths from Target for applying dressings.
