I am looking into ways to improve carpet cleaning time, and effectiveness. My thought now is to get a LGM, but what do you all do, and what products are most effective? Most time effecient?

Try using a Brush attachment for your PC. I find that combined with a good carpet cleaner, the brush dramatically cuts down the time it takes to scrub carpets.

      Re: Carpet Cleaning

I load up my LGM with hot water and then I:
      • spray APC onto the floor mats and any stains on the carpet
      • agitate well with the Meguiar's carpet brush
      • spray rinse water from the LGM onto the matt/carpet
      • work all that in a bit more
      • spray & extract some more
      • repeat until rinse water comes up clear in the LGM

Notice that my LGM has no APC in it, just clear rinse water. The resulting liquid in the collection tank of the LGM is always embarassingly gross, which tells me I'm doing something right.

Jeez, I really need to do this as it's been a while now. Darn it.

Carpet cleaner I believe Little Green Machine?

I have a Bissel carpet spot cleaner with upholstrey attachment and it works fantastic. I used to use liquid laundry detergent on my cloth seats but will try this method in the future, we got rid of 1 of 5 kids, the messiest and may not need it anytime soon, she can mess up her own car, to which she has and Dad had to help clean out the white mocha out off of the floorboard and scrub the car.

Great opportunity to plug our new Quik Out Carpet Stain Remover. Just went on sale today. I have ordered some for our guys here at Meguiar's to play with, but I would love to hear from any of our Forum Member out there who buy it and try it. Here is a link to the product page as well if you want to check it out.

                Re: Carpet Cleaning

While I'm one of those that does surface cleaning with a good vacuum and the original Meg's APC+, that surface cleaning is pretty lacking when it comes to getting carpet really clean.
I don't have access to an extractor, but it would be interesting to see how much dirt one would pull out after the surface cleaning has the mats looking great.
Since it's too cold for me to be working outside, I tried cleaning one carpeted floor mat with a soap and water soak after vacuuming and using the APC+ with a scrub brush.
                It was quite a revelation.
The amount of dirt that I was able to get out after my surface cleaning was amazing. Don't do it unless you want to be pretty disappointed in what you are doing with the surface cleaning that most of us do.
Hosing the mats down and scrubbing them with a Dawn mixture and a scrub brush is something I have done a few times a year for quite some time. The dirt is rinsed away in the driveway and I really had no way of knowing just how much was removed. Today, I did it in a shower stall we have in the basement. The scrubbing after the surface cleaning, (which looked decent), created such dirty water that you couldn't see the bottom of a white shower stall.
If you are getting the carpet truly clean with just an APC and a brush, your technique is much better than mine.
