Help with Gold Rich Class Leather Foam cleaner

Hi All,

G'day all the way for Perth, Australia.

I have been a Meguiars fan and user for many years now. I just bought myself a new Nissan Murano which has leather seats. Wanting to look after it from day one, I went to my local auto shop to buy some leather cleaner/conditioner.

We don't have the full range of Meguiars or other brands stocked here (small market I guess). I had a choice between the Meguiars GC Rich leather cleaner/conditioner in foam or lotion. I decided on the foam after reading the bottle.

I went to try it on my seats and following the instructions, sprayed the foam directly onto the seats and spread it around. I didnt have some terry towel cloths so I used some polishing clothes. I was a little surprised at first because the leather went very wet and glossy but I thought this would dry and I could wipe it off.

I left it in the sun for a good 20 minutes and nothing had happened. I tried wiping it off but couldnt really get rid of the gloss which was there the next day.

Most of the gloss has come off now after regular driving.

Is the gloss normal? Also, I am seeing some waves and wrinkles in the leather which untreated will become cracks. How do I prevent the cracks or appearance of wrinkles?

Finally whats the best way to apply the foam? Should I spray the foam onto a foam applicator pad to spread around rather than directly onto the seats? What towels are best to wipe the excess off to leave no glossy and slippery residue?

Sorry for missing this post, I've been pretty busy as of late and once in a while one slips by...


I've never heard of any of our Gold Class leather products making leather glossy the way you describe? The waves and wrinkles you are seeing are also a concern.

I've forwarded the link to this thread to our Director of Training as well as Tom McDonald for them to read and hopefully chime in on.

While it is tough to interpret your definition of "glossy", it is true if you looked at all of our leather products you will find some are glossier than others.

The GC Foam tends to be one of the the glossier ones (relatively speaking of course).

You did mention the GC Cleaner /Conditioner Lotion, that is probably our most natural / pure looking leather products. If too much gloss is a concern to you, you may wish to try this product.

Keep in mind, that is one reason we make so many types of leather products (delivery system, viscosity, gloss, etc...)...

Different strokes for different folks

As far as applying the foam to reduce gloss, you may trying applying it onto a cotton towel, and then applying it to the seat. Once that is done, follow with a microfiber towel to remove any excess product. This should reduce the amount fo gloss.

As far as the wrinkling effect ???? Is there any way you can post a good picture of this effect ?

Here is a picture. Its not my seat but a picture of another Murano who has a similar problem.



My leather seats are black.

You can see the problem areas I have highlighted. I would love some advice on how to get rid of these problems.

The car is only 1 month old.

Sorry my friend but the creases are a part of leather seats. The wrinkles probably are too but I'm not sure on that one. I have a Cadillac and sure enough I have creases as well. You might want to show the wrinkles to your dealer because maybe the leather is a bit loose there?

Its a bit interesting how the GC leather cleaner/conditioning foam would be glossier than the others. I was under the impression that the foam and the lotion were exactly the same except the foam is a bit easier to apply and there is less wastage.

there is no indiction of "gloss" factor on the bottles.
