hey everyone. first time poster and long time reader here. i just got my truck about a month ago and on the inside of my driver side window, there are a bunch of scratches from a previous owner. its a small issue but it kind of bothers me. i just want to know how to get rid of them. they dont seem too deep and i have heard people say that PlastX and ScratchX could help solve my problem. has anyone ever fixed anything like this? thanks.

Hi kilika77,to MOL!
Just a wild guess, are the scratches near the door lock, like they were made by somebody wearing a diamond ring repeatedly locking/unlocking the door? Not that it matters how they got there.
Are they only visible or can you feel them? Will they catch a fingernail if you pick at them?
To remove a scratch what you basically have to do is remove material around the scratch until the whole area is leveled out and smooth. That goes for any material, paint, metal, plastic or glass. The material and the severity a scratch will determine if removal is feasible and what products and/or methods may work.
ScratchX does a good job removing scratches from paint. PlastX does a good job removing scratches from clear plastics. Unfortunately, glass is far, far harder than either of those. Their cutting action cannot effectively remove any glass material. They can remove gunk stuck on the surface of glass, but if you have defects in glass that are actually below the surface, like scratches or pitting, they won't work at all.
It's possible to remove some minor defects from some types of glass using specialty abrasives. It may be best left to a glass professional. I would suggest calling automotive glass shops in your area to see if any offer polishing.
If you really want to DIY, some restoration outfits like Eastwood do sell glass polishing materials.

hey pc, thanks for the info. well i dont think that the previous owner had a ring or anything like that. the scratches are in the middle of the window and i think there might be some letters in all the scratches. i can see them from outside the vehicle and when i push a fingernail over it, i can get caught.
i guess if there are no consumer products out there for this sort of thing, ill just check out glass professionals in my area. thanks for the help.
