  • PlastX on Factory Tinted Plastic Windows?

Does anyone know if it's OK to use PlastX on Factory Tinted Plastic Windows? I have a Jeep Wrangler with tinted side and rear plastic convertible windows and I was wondering if it was OK to use PlastX on them. I know the Meguiars mini catalog says it's for clear plastic, but I wasn't sure if it would apply to factory tinted plastic windows as well.

    Thanks.

Hmm.. with the tinting being part of the plastic, it wont wear off from something mildly abasive. I dont know for sure, but I would certainly try a test spot first if you do. Pick a low, out of the way corner. Or better yet, try on a friends...

If it's a film, or coating on the plastic, then the answer is no. If the plastic itself is tinted, then

      Test in an inconspicuous are

If the material is Lexan, then chances are good no plastic product with the ability to clean or abrade will be safe to use as most Lexan plastics are very hard and do not lend themselves to polishing/abrading.

If it is Lexan, then stick with a non-abrasive plastic cleaner like

      Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Cleaner

It's also very important when ever you work on plastics that the surface is free of any dirt or dust and that your applicator and removal cloth is soft and clean.
