Blue haze.....

Help me out here guys.


I have 00 OEM Maxima headlight That was thoroughly yellowed, pitted, and nasty. Sanded down from 800,1000,1500,2000 before compounding and polishing. I still got these haze that is bluish color. I did the same OEM headlight from previous project and had the same exact result. could it be the lens?

I used Mcguire Glaze after PlastiX polish and McGuire compound. I used variable rotary buffer. Rinse after each application and complete wipe down, used orange pad ( Harbor Freight) for compounding, blue for polishing, and black for glaze.

This is what it looked like after polishing, glaze just made it shinier.







did the same process on different headlight lens and got better result.

Not sure what to do.

A rotary is a bit aggressive... looks like you could be leaving some haze if one light is a more sensitive plastic.

If you can get some milder pads, milder tool, try by hand to finish off?

And the haze is only on the outside?

The haze is on the outside I think.

I could try using slower speed and use black pad for polishing maybe instead of blue?

Which glaze did you use? How were they after just the PlastX?

I suggest simplifying your process.

Think of contents in Meguiars Heavy Duty Headlight Correction kit; 1000 grit, 3000 grit, plast-x, drill attachment, and headlight protectant.

Process:
Horizontal with 1000
Verticle with 3000
Dab of PLastx on the drill attachment
Apply until lens clears
Use protectant

Plast-x on that simple drill attachment gave me incredible results lately. I think Murr is right for going the direction of hazing due to the rotary. That tool might be a bit overkill for this task.

How should I clean them to start. just wipe down with Alcohol is enough?

Should I use black pad to polish to be less agrerssive then?

Yes yes yes, my suggestion was only for future jobs. One thing Mr. Stoops teaches in the 101 Class is to use the proper tool for the job. Example putting a nail in the wall you can use a sledge hammer or a normal hammer. Both get the job done. But one is a bit over kill.

My suggestion is simply on future lights.
This one I think another polish pass at slow speeds with plastx and you will have it.
I don't think you can buy the wand drill attachment thing from the heavy duty headlight correction kit by itself, but that thing worked. I've seen similar results with a polishing pad so give that a shot!
Either way I think you will have great results.

I sed mf cut disc with m100 after sanding, da speed 4 and no issues clear as new and it was in very bad shape

Ok. I have someone lee did this for me. He started with 2000 and finished with 3000 before PlastX. He went slow about 1400 rpm on it polishing pad. Not much different other than better surface finish. The haze was there at 3000 grit already.





I'll probably get aftermarket lens and UV coat, and polish.

That's unfortunate. Just doesn't want to finish perfectly.

I'd be intrigued by a test spot with something like UC for the heck of it.
