First off, these were pretty bad because of the arizona sun and I wanted to give this a shot, figured whats the harm I was going to give them away or trash them anyhow.

Before pics:






First step was to hit them with 600 grit sandpaper (wet sand) then follow up with 1000 grit.

Step 2 is to hit them with a paint prep, which cleans all the residue and waxes off... once this drys you will think you have messed them up big time as they are foggy as hell.

Step 3 was to hit them with Meguiars ultimate compound

Step 4 hit them again with 2000 grit wet sand

Step 5 ultimate polish

Step 6 ultimate wax

Keep in mind I just did these.... total of 20 minutes. Real quick and I will probably hit them again so I can actually sell them!

Great job!!! The headlights look a lot better.

I would actually switch steps 3 & 4.

I think im going to hit them again with the ult compound, polish then wax one more time... I was just kinda winging it. Now thinking about it I should have done exactaly what you suggested.... not sure why I did it that way lol. BTW I used the pads you sold me way back when.

Yeah you're right. Here's how I would do it:

1. Wetsand 1000 -> 1500 -> 2000 grit
2. Clean Surface with paint prep
3. Ultimate Compound
4. Ultimate Polish
5. Ultimate Wax

You should try using the softbuff 2.0 4" pads. This will allow you to concentrate more energy on a specific area.

I'm glad those pads are working well for you. Have you detailed your beautiful mustang yet?

I have, but i didnt touch it with the ult compound which i should have, there are spots with fine scratches and water spots. I will post pics of that when I detail it again.

Nice work!!

If you're still struggling to get out all the sanding marks, try refining your sanding down with 3000 grit before UC on the polishing pads. Our HD Headlight Restoration Kit comes with 1000 grit and 3000 grit, and the marks come out easily with the wool pad and PlastX supplied with the kit.

You are correct, I am struggling with those. These have been replaced a while ago and I used these as a practice piece. I will run and grab some 3000 grit, id like to use the product I already have as I have been detailing for some people I know and one wants me to hit his headlights so I will master these first.

I clear coated my my Mustang headlights, got tired of "restoring" them over and over. After i clearcoated, i polished them. Haven't touched them in 3 years now.

How did you clear coat them? A can of clear enamel paint?

No i used automotive 2 part urethane clearcoat, applied with a spray gun. After the clearcoat, i cut and buffed them. You could use a spray can of clear, just have to apply more coats. Sand all the imperfections out, i started with 400 paper, work up to 1000. Apply the clear, sand with 1000,1500,2000, then buff to a mirror. Did the tail lights too.
