  • M17

Hi, I'm Italian and I apologize for my English. I have a question about M17. My new VW Golf R has a rear light with light swirl and I would like to use M17 by hand.

    Doubt:

    1. M17 can remove the UV film?

    2. M17 is safe even on colored plastic? can remove the color of the red rear light? (original rear light)

    Thanks

    Re: M17

    1) depends on how aggressive you are with the product!

    2) the lenses are usually molded in color and color throughout.

I would try a little corner or something. Sadly, the UV film is the first to go yellow, depending on year of the car. My Yukon has the UV film and is a pain to keep clean. It's tough stuff and I hit it with mild sandpaper with no go. But I use PlastX to keep them in line with a little M105 by hand. I have taken them off and used a rotary buffer on them, but I err on caution before doing that.....Heat kills plastic.

It is abrasive or not? mask the scratches?

        Re: M17

It has I believe a Diminishing abrasive, meaning it will break down after doing it's job. It won't mask the scratches, it will actually remove material in such a small dimension therefore, removing the scratch, like a compound removing just a tick of paint to get rid of sanding marks, swirl marks etc.

        It's good stuff.

I tried it with a yellow bad but without satisfaction. It is very hard to remove swirl with M17, in fact I think it's just a cleaner...

          M17: cleaner
          Plast X: corrector
          M10: finisher

          is it correct?

            Re: M17

I seem to recall that PlastX is the stronger option for correction.

You could also try SwirlX or UC if you had them already.

Depending on how mild/sever the swirls are, it may not really be worth worrying about. Or if real severe, not really fixable without more effort.

But Plast X and Swirl X are not too aggressive on the taillights? or just the colored/tinted taillights?

                Re: M17

Neither product is overly aggressive for either type of lens. We've even seen people use M105, about as aggressive as these things get, to remove bad swirls and scratches from red tail lights.
