  • Plastx remove 2000grit?

Can Plastx remove 2000grit wet sanding scratches?

I want to do a couple headlight restorations,I have the G1900 headlight kit ,1000 and 2000 wet or dry sandpaper.

It seems 3000grit sandpaper is rare around me.

You need to use M105/ M205 combo.

PlastX is only for small fine scratches.

So it would remove 3000grit no problem?

In what order would I use M105/ M205?

      1)1000g,2000g,M105,M205,Plastx

      2)M105, M205, Plastx

If the headlights are in need of a "restoration" requiring sanding, you'd want to wet sand with 1,000 followed by 2,000 followed by 3,000 and then use an RA buffer to work through M105, M205 and finally use the plastx.

I only do Headlight Restorations using 400, 800, 1000, and 2000 grit papers. After sanding I use a Mothers Powerball Mini on a High Speed Drill and use Plastx and it removes 2000 grit marks just fine. Then follow up with a 50/50 mix of clear gloss Helmsman spar uerathane and Mineral Spirits on a Scotts Blue shop towel folded into a 2x2 in square and let dry. Works great for me every time.

Plastx isn't removing the 2000 grit scratches, you are filling them in with the spar varnish. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that method, however anyone who attempts to restore a headlight using 2000 grit and scratchx without the varnish, is likely to end up disappointed.

Actually Joe, the PlastX is removing the majority of the scratches and filling them as well. It does have a pretty good abrasive in is, but it is a diminishing abrasive so it will cut for a while then smooth out to polish after a period of time. Then yes, I do apply the uerathane as a UV sealer and clear coat. If you only use the PlastX alone, after a period of time the lenses will re-yellow and fade once again.
