Yes, you can definitely use M86 for this purpose. M105 works great too, and M205 is fantastic as a final step after using either M86 or M105 to pull out your sanding marks. In fact, that's why we include it in our new Professional Headlight & Spot Repair Kit.

I actually tested out UC on some pretty bad lamps without sanding. Came out with clarity.
I have had a lot of success with UC, really bad headlights have come out looking really clear. My wife commented on how much better she sees after I did the headlights on my '99 caddie.
