  • How to use DA to polish headlights, brake lights?

    Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone can guide me on what is needed to polish headlights and brake lights? I have a DA but do not know what pad to use and what chemicals? Can I use sand paper and soap/water? Any help would be great?

    Thanks

We typically use 2000 and 2500 Meguiar's unigrit sandpaper and 4" pads on the PC. We've found M105 to work excellent on headlights and tail lights. Here's our typical process:

    - Wetsand with 2000 and/or 2500, use soapy water as lubricant.
    - DA with a 4" polishing pad and M105
    - DA with a 4" polishing or finishing pad and PlastX

    Good luck

Just curious, what brand are these 4" pads that you speak of? I've seen 'em in photos, but never online for purchase. Does ADS sell these?

mine car is not particularly old (2003) and i dont know anything about wetsanding, but if they are not too bad, try ago with a finishing pad then a polishing pad if needs be work your way up through the polishes, if this doesnt work then i would consider wet sanding. Remember plastics dont dissipate heat like metal does so be careful.

Sonus and Lake Country do 4'' spot pads i believe

I use Lake Country 4" pads and start with a white finishing pad and #80, if that doesn't cut it I try #105, if that works I then will finish with Plast X. If 105 is not enough then I wet sand, 105 then plast X.

The 4" pads and backing plate are sold by Lake Country. You can google that to find out where to buy them.
