What to dress with?

Im going to be detailing my moms engine on her G35

I will be using Simple Green Diluted as a cleaner but still don't know what to dress it with yet.

I have some Mothers Back To Black that i picked up to do the black plastic side skirts etc but it doesnt really seem efficient or cheap to dress it with this.

Any reccomendations that i can pick up at a Wal-Mart?

I dress my engine with M40 Viny/Rubber Cleaner and Conditioner.

I would try and see if you could find Gold Class Trim Detailer, Supreme Shine Protectant, or even Natural Shine at your local Walmart.

You also may have more options to choose from at an Auto Parts Store.

I would use Hyper Dressing 1:1 if you have it.

Be careful using Simple Green. Several members on this forum have had trouble with it staining different metals and plastics and such. If you could pick up an all-purpose cleaner/degreaser like Orange Lightning, Purple Power, or Super Degreaser that would be best. My local Wally World carries those products in the car cleaning aisle. Just a thought.

Be careful using Simple Green. Several members on this forum have had trouble with it staining different metals and plastics and such.

I will never go near Simple Green again.

It turned my black plastic wheelwells white after one use.

Took about a year and a half of APC and All Seaon Dressing till they looked normal again when not dressed.

For an over-the-counter engine dressing, I would recommend CD-2 Engine Detailer. It is available at AutoZone stores. It is easy to use and leaves a nice long-lasting shine. And it does not attract dust. Here are a couple of pics of my engine bay after CD-2:

how much is it?? i heard a lot of good things about hyper dressing but its really expensive

I would use Zep Citrus degreaser diluted 5:1 to clean the engine then CD-2 to dress. If you have a local paint and body supplier you can pick up Meguiars APC and Hyper Dressing

Actually, HyperDressing is a bargain, especially for those who do lots of detailing, because of the dilution ratio and because of its many uses.

CD-2 runs about $6 a can. One can get two or three cars out of one aerosol can, so I have read. Since I have only used it once, it's hard for me judge exactly how much I used up on my engine detail. I also used it on my wheel wells. I still have stuff left in the can.

My understanding is that one must wipe off Hyper Dressing after application to avoid dust sticking (unlike CD-2). Does Megs make a product that is simply spray on and let dry for dressing an engine bay?
