  • APC(Simple Green) turned Tube Brown in Engine Detail

Hey guys a while back I did an engine detail and I believe I was actually using simple green instead of APC to clean down the engine. I got some on the rubber tubing of my CAI and it for some reason reacted and turned the tube green. I figured whatever and just dressed it with HD. Since then I have been careful not to get any sort of APC on that tube. None of my other tubes discolored, but is there a way to get this tube back to black again? because once the HD fades away, the brown comes back.

    Thanks, Andrew

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.

    Well, maybe this is similar....

I used Simple Green to clean my wheelweels, and not at a strong dilution, just mild. Pretty much turned my wheelwells from black/gray to white.

Then I switched to APC at around 8:1, and used that + dressings for about a year and a half. The white slowly stopped coming back after a while, and I did not have to dress them as much.

So, perhaps cleaning it more with something else, even just with some soapy water for a while might help.

But could that have just been the dirt that got into the product from the degreasing the engine?

A year ago, I used an All Purpose Degrease in my engine bay and my black plastics turned kind of white. I used tire shine and the white went away. The white did not come back last weekend when i washed it with with car soap

A little off topic sorry, Is the APC+ no longer available? I can not find it to purchase anywhere!!! ADS has it in small jugs but I wanted at least a gallon of it.

Stick with Meguiar's Products, can't go wrong at all!!!!

What dilution did you use it at?

APC+ should be available in a gallon.... Give Rick a call, maybe they are just out of it for the moment.

A similar thing happened to me with APC when I first used it.
Dragonballz, did you let the APC dry, or did you rinse the APC off real well?

It was an all purpose degreaser in foam form from a spray can. No i didnt let it dry. I let it sit for about 30 seconds and just rinsed it. I didnt even agitate it. I rinsed it till the foam and dirt was washed away. Maybe i didnt rinse enough?

That was my theory. Any way you can easily take it off and give it a good scrubbing? I've noticed with my cars, a good scrubbing to get rid of that old dressing and what not really helps. The combination of dried cleaner, mixed with old dressing drying on ya may be the culprit.

If it is rubber, I've had good luck with Eagle1 All wheel/tire cleaner to clean my tires and it's pretty mild, just rinse it good as with most cleaners.

                    Keep us posted.

You probably misread my other post. The white was gone once i applied the tire shine and it DID NOT come back this past weekend. But i just washed it with car soap, not AP degreaser like i did previously.

When i use the degreaser again, i'll be sure to update.

When I applied the Simple Green, I believe it was not even that strong of a concentration, however I only let it sit about 30 seconds and rinsed. When I rinsed, the tube was completely brown and faded looking until dressing
