  • Color sanding then polishing question.

I always get great advice for these forums!

My going to color sand my '49 Ford F-1 (orange peel). What grit sand paper do I start and end with. And what compounds and polishes do I start and end with. Thanks in advance! Kevin

Re: Color sanding then polishing question.

Maybe this post should've been in other part of the forum like the wet sanding forum part.

start with 2000. if it's not aggressive enough, step down to 1500 and if you are confident, to 1200 grit. Buff it with the compound of your preference, which in this case if you use 1500 or coarser sanding papers, you could consider using a wool pad with the compound of your preference (Megs M85, presta compound, Automagic XP compound or 3M PIII extra cut rubbing compound) and buff it at the manufacturer's recommended RPM

then use the cleaner polish of your preference (Megs M83, Presta Polish, Automagic BC1 or 3M PIII swirl mark remover) at the manufacturers recommended RPM.

if you want a flawless finish, then use a milder cleaner polish (Megs M80, Automagic BC2, or 3M P-it 3000 ultrafina SE) at the manufacturer's recommended RPM

    then wax.

just make sure you know what you're doing.

    Hope this Helps

P.S. If the paint is not fully cured, use 3M PIII finishing glaze or re-apply Megs M80 by hand
