  • Clean lt1

Ok I know there is alot of information about cleaning your engine bay but all I can find is on ls1. I mostly want to know how to clean my hood and the fender walls. I know that simple green hurts the heads so what else do you lt1 users use to clean the engine bay, and how can I get my alt and intake to look good and not have that discolored look to it?
    -Thanks Brandon

I've got an LT1 also in my Buick Roadmaster and to clean it I used some "PRO" brand degreaser(thats what we had at work) but any degreaser will work, just dilute it so it's not full strength. Then to shine What i found works VERY well is meguiars hotshine aerosol tire shine. Spray it on all the fender wells, and all rubber/plastic and just let it sit. Now remember you don't need to "Blast" the engine with water. Just spray the degreaser all over (avoid the optispark unit near the front of the engine on the bottom if you don't know) and let it sit for a few minutes, then just using the hose, gently "mist" the degreaser and dirt off.
How about making those pictures smaller for us?

As far as the alternator you'd either have to paint it or if it's aluminum(I'd imagine it is) you could try polishing it if you have a buffer.

Thanks for the advice. I have one more question though, the underside of my hood and my fenders are filty. I have tried claying both of them but nothing. What would you suggestion on a painted surface like this?
        -Thanks Brandon

          BEWARE OF DROWNING THE OPTISPARK

It's the most pain in the a** thing I have ever had to replace.

          Good luck

Well for my hood I have the insulator for lack of better terms, I would use degreaser after taking this off if you have one. For the fenders same thing, use some degreaser. I just use greased lightning but any degreaser will work.

OK thanks for the advice. I need a degreaser that takes off the dirt and grime but doesn't take off the finish, so in other words the perfect degreaser.lol I think I will give grease lightning a try, I also have some simple green.

                Re: Clean lt1

I have an ls1 and use simple green. I use the garden hose without a nozzle to rinse it off. I have aluminum heads and do not have any issues with corrosion. check out the detailing section on the forums on ls1tech.com. They tell you how to clean the engine bay.
