  • Attention Mike P , Joe F, And Frank C

Hey Mike, Joe, Frank, And anyone else that can help

I detailed my wife's aunt's car about a week ago and I need some suggestions on a small problem that I see with this car or other similiar cars. This car is a late 90's buick centry with a fake convertible top. It has some mildew forming around the rear window (outside) on the fabric top near the trunk where most of the water runs to drain. It also has what is either mildew or ground in pollen around the door seal which is also on the fabric.
I know in the home bleach will take care of the mildew but on a fake convertible top I know this is a real NO NO. What would be your suggestions for this problem? Sorry no pics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I live in So Cali and mildew isn't a problem here on anything.

My caddy has a fuax convertable top as well. I would use one of Meguiars cleaners, maybe APC, and a scrub brush. Cover the rest of the vehicle in plastic sheeting and spray the cleaner on ithe top. Let it dwell then scrub.

If that doesn't work, my guess that bleach would be something I would reach for.

Try a diluted mix somewhere hidden so if it messes anything it is hidden.

The consumer line fabric cleaner could also be an option.

              onawrxhigh,
Is the roof cloth or vinyl? I would look into purchasing a convertible roof cleaning product.

I had this problem on a 1966 Imperial Convertible that I detailed this summer. APC worked wonders on the mildew, the owner was amazed.
