  • What Services Included in Full Detail?

    To All,

I have been reading this forum for quite awhile and I need to ask something that may be so obvious to you,but escapes me.

When you are offering your services for a Full Detail, what exactly is that? I mean, is that include using a DA or Buffer to remove swirls/defects.

Some places on this site talked about various pricing for a full detail and I am not disputing the pricing.

I ask because I too like a lot of "New Guys" am thinking of doing detailing (On weekends only, need beer money ). I know there are so many other issues to deal with but I am cracking those nuts one at a time. I have no interest in providing a service for washing only. I would prefer to do:

    Wash
    Polish or Clay or both
    Wax
Datail extirior (Tires. Trim and wheel wells)
Mild interior cleaning with protectant applied

    DA/Buff Extra?
Complete Interior Cleaning with an Extractor Extra?
    Engine Detail None (too risky)

So, is this a "Full Detail"? Or is it not black and white and just ends up being what services you have to offer at a price? I hope I am being clear enough here. Set me straight and thanx.

          Superior Shine,

That link you gave me is quite Detailed (no pun intended). Thanks for that info and it is quite informitive.

          gregcavi and mirrorfinishman,

Thanks for your input also. I know this was talked about in a round about way and I appreciate touching on the subject again. I did do a search to make sure the exact question was not asked and didn't see that specific thing. So thanks for taking the time for replying.

            Here's my price scale:
            A)Wash job only - $3/ft, up to 60', $5/ft for 61' and above
-- includes washing, chamois, rinsing off windows, chamoising to get rid of water spots, chamoising the metal to get rid of water spots, cleaning Isinglass/Strataglass/Plexiglass.

            B)Wash, metal- $5/ft, up to 80', $10/ft for 80' and above
--includes hand polishing ALL of the metal on the boat, even controls at the helm.

            C)Wash, hand wax- $8/ft, up to 60', $11/ft for 61' and above
--includes handwaxing everything from the rub-rail UP.

D)Wash, metal, hand wax- $10/ft, up to 60', $12/ft for 61' and above
            --A,B, and C

E)Buffing- Depends on how many steps are needed. I use all Meguiar's stuff... MV80 Velocity High Speed Cutting Compound (which is the equivalent of 600 grit sandpaper), MV81 Velocity Mold Release Compound (about 1200 grit), M82 Swirl Free Polish (about 2500 grit), M66 Quik Detailer (about 2200 grit, plus wax), and Flagship marine wax. If I can get away with just 66, then it's $11/ft. If I have to drop down to 82, it's $12/ft. 81 is $14/ft, and in the rare case that I have to drop down to 80, it's $18/ft. The reason they cost more, is because it's addign an extra step. 66 is one-step. 80 is a 5 step process. Those prices are the same, regardless the size of the boat, and are from the rub-rail UP.

F)Hull sides- see explanation above- 66= $11/ft. 82= $13.50/ft. 81= $15/ft. 80= $17.50/ft. All prices are for up to 60', and go up by $3/ft each, for 61' and above. Boats over 100' are quoted per job.

G)FULL DETAIL- A-F, from the top of the antenna to the bottom of the water line: $30/ft for up to 60', $40/ft for 61'-80', $60/ft for 81' and above. Will look like a brand new boat. Typically done for boat shows, weddings, etc.
