  • Harch interior smell

I got a call from a used car dealer asking me if I could get rid of an out of this world dog smell in an older car. When I open the door I almost passed out!! The smell that came out of there was unbelievable. It was obvious that some one had 'tried' to shampoo the carpet as there was about two inch of water on the floor.

Anyway I started by extracting the water from the carpet, and waited until it dried. I then sprayed some antibacterial odor killer on the seats, and the carpet and left the doors open for rest of the day. I then tried to shampoo and extract the carpet and the seats twice and reaplied some antibacterial oder killer but the stinge is still there.

I honestly met my match and don't now what to do next. Any sugestions, beside burning the car?

From your description of the problem, it could be this is one of those situations where there is not easy fix let alone one you spray or pour out of a bottle.

Meguiar's offers an Odor Eliminator, on both our Consumer Line and our Professional Line, but it sounds like this car needs to have it's interior stripped and replaced in order to fix the problem.

This is just a guess, but being a used car dealer, they're probably looking for a cheap fix?

Meguiar's teaches the philosophy of "Evaluating the condition of the surface" before choosing and using any products or procedures. Sometimes your evaluation will tell you that the problem is beyond fixing, or at least your ability to fix. That said, sometimes you're wise to first "Evaluate the customer" as there are some people you can not please.

Here's the link to our Odor Eliminator in our Consumer Line, at this time we don't have a picture or information on our Odor Eliminator in our Professional Line, but the part number is M2301

You can always give these a try but past these options and maybe something similar, you'll come to a point where the time, money and energy you invest will not be worth what the customer is willing to pay.

      Thanks Mike,
You are exactly right, the carpet and back seat needs to be striped and replaced and being an older car and the dealer don't want to spend a whole lot of money on it.
However as a detailer I though I would give it a try anyway, I knew from the start that I wouldn't get it all out but I just had to try and I just hate to be defeated.

        Well, perseverance paid off!
I was so ticked [edited for language: 2hotford] off that I couldn't get the smell out of that car that I decided to make it my personal project. I went on the net and researched different products. I found a product called 'Enviro Chem' and decided to give a try. Well that product blew my socks off!!

You can either use the product mixed with shampoo or use it as a spray in really bad area. So since that car was really stinky, I used it as a spray all over the inside carpet, seats, liner anything made of fabric. After the first application I started to notice a real improvement so I let it dry for about an hour with the windows open and then repeated the process three more times. I can honestly say that the dog smell is 90% gone!

I'm sure that there is probably other chemicals out there that could do the job, but this one worked for me and made the dealer very happy.

For those of you that might be interested, Enviro Chem is produced by Rochester Midland Limited.
