  • Advice Needed Again(2003 mb c230)

    Hey Everyone,

I will be detailing this vehicle for a friend at work. The car is always kept very clean, paint is in very good condition with very few fine swirls. It has on the rear drivers side what apears to be a shopping cart or car door hit (no dents)just scratches from what ever hit it. my question is does this model year have the new ceramiclear paint and if it does what productswould you recommend for the swirls and the scratches. the product that I have available are 85,84,83,81,80,16,nxt tech wax,2500 unigrit paper, makita and a g100a. Almost forgot this is a black car.

It doesn't really matter what kind of paint is on the car in that our products are going to work the same on any paint. What's more important it to...

"Always use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

Try using the M80 Speed Glaze with a W-8006 pad on the G100 first, if that doesn't work then substitute the M83. If that doesn't' work, the break out the rotary buffer and start with the M80/W-8006 combo again. If that doesn't work, then you get the picture.

    Best of luck...

      Howdy Andrew,

I have a black 2003 C320 4-matic. I was wanting to know what exactly the paint was on my Mercedes as well. I just got off the phone with MB dealer in my area. MY C320 is just a straight black (color code 040) and it turns out that it is NOT Cerimclear, not does it have a clearcoat finish to it. Rather surprising to me at least! They said that if the black paint has no metallic finish to it, it will not be a clearcoated finish.

I would have your friend call his local MB dealer's parts/service department with the VIN number ready and ask them the color code and whether it has Ceramiclear or not. If it's the same code, it won't though. But fear not, the black MB's clean up VERY nicely!

      Good luck, keep us posted!

Check the paint code on the car, if it starts with a "C" it is a ceramic clear coat. Example, C744 is their silver nano(aka ceramic) clear coat.

That may be true, but it is important for owners and detailers alike to at least be aware of these ceramaic particle finishes. From what I hear, it seems they are going to become more and more commonplace among the high end brands.

I'll certainly agree to always use the least aggressive product as well as technique to correct the finish. In my experience, Ceramiclear can be a little trickier to work with. Just a FWIW.
