  • New Mobile Detailer

    Hey there,

I am just starting up a mobile auto detailing company, and I wondered how current mobile detailers are advertising for/to customers? I have business cards (which I hand out at every opportunity), a facebook page dedicated to my company, I am looking into a web site and I have placed an add on kijiji. Anyone doing anything else for advertisment?

I am going to be doing waterless washing for the exteriors... I have done some research on a few different kinds and I would love some opinions as to which you all prefer? I have looked into a product called NOWET... which looks interesting (claims to be completely eco friendly, organic and REACH certified), it's quite expensive however. The others i'm interested in are Ultima Waterless Wash Plus, and the Meguiars version, Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere.
Any advice, or suggestions are completely welcome! Thanks for taking the time to read this

Word of mouth is the biggest resource i have. Customer to customer marketing is a big help in the industry.
I have big success approaching people at Car Shows, dealerships and car tuning shops. But i am also a car nut so I think when people see the passion it helps.

As far as product. Megs Rinseless wash is good, Megs UWWA is amazing, chemical guys make a waterless wash, Optimum No Rinse Wash and Wax or Wash and Shine.

I personally like spraying the product on. So this means I like UWWA, CG and Optimum over Megs rinseless. It is not a bad product, I just prefer the spraying process.

UWWA- only available in small bottle consumer format. Maybe one day Megs will listen to the request for this in larger format. How can I petition this? I use this on my own car all the time. Great for all surfaces.

CG- Wash and Wax, this product comes in bulk format. Both concentrate and Ready to use mixtures. I use this for most customer washes because for whatever reason it helps shine up the textured black plastic found on most cars now. But the con is that it gets really streaky on windows to my experience. As opposed to UWWA which I can pretty much spray, wipe, dry in one round. I have to come back and clean the windows again separately. Lastly, I have found that this product separates after just a short time in the bottle. When i transfered from bulk bottle to sprayer I noticed a large amount of thick liquid at the bottom. Assuming that was the wax element settling. I haven't seen this occur with UWWA.

Optimum- I would say this product is closer to the CG stuff than UWWA. Depends what you are doing but if you are going to correct or polish the car you may not be in need of products with the wax element.

Thanks so much for the information! I will defintely be going with UWWA. I bought some yesterday and did my car with it just to test it out for myself and it is effing awesome! It will be kind of a pain in the butt to buy 5 bottles at a time, lol, but worth it I think for the quality I see! Again, thanks a lot!

About the 5 bottle thing, this is why i hope for large format ready to use or concentrate UWWA. I would do soooooo many more waterless washed if i had that. Please Megs, Please!

Wait, your just starting and you don't have your systems down?
That's setting yourself up for major failure.

My suggestion to you before you work on strangers cars and you don't make them happy.
You do all your friends cars for a few months and even go to work for some experienced detailers.
Detailing encompasses a multitude of things you must get right to please the masses.

Please don't just jump into Detailing for a money if you don't have your systems down.
I've detailed alot of cars wrong before I was properly trained and shadowed "the great one" who showed me how to make money at Detailing.

In this day and age you'll get bad reviews in an instant if you dont make them happy and no one will hire you again.
And I keep saying "making them happy" not meaning you do a good job in your eyes but you have to know what your customers are expecting and make them happy.

I'm not new to detailing. I'm new to the waterless washes.

But the title of the thread says new mobile detailer. So I assumed as well that you were new to detailing.

No worries dude. New to MOBILE detailing. I worked in a shop for 5 years That's why i'm new to the waterless systems. Used a pressure washer in a shop, previously. I like the idea of waterless. Better for the environment.

rinse less is easy to use wipe it on wipe it off, done. move on.
WW is a spray on, spray, wipe, buff, move on.
Rinse less is faster due to the fact you have more water to play with and it works better in my opinion then a ww, in some cases.
