  • Fast drying #83 with a rotary

I was detailing a honda this weekend and using my rotary, #83 and a meguiars cutting pad on the hood (the hood was a mess). The #83 seemed to be drying very fast (faster than I had seen before). I had the Makita speed set at 2.5.

Any idea what could cause the faster drying?

Any suggestions on curing this problem (mist surface with some detail spray?)

Outside temp was in the high 70's with fairly low humidity.

I followed up with #80 and a polishing pad, which worked fine.

I used to have that prob too. turned out I was using too little product. by the way how much are you using per panel? did you prime your pad first? It helps a lot if the pad is well primed.

Yes, I do prime the pad with quick detail spray prior to first use. I put an X of product on the pad each time I use it. I clean the pad after each panel.

I'll see Mike Phillips tomorrow and ask the Master what he thinks!

Yes, I spoke with Mike on Saturday. That is fairly common behavior for #83 with a rotary. A couple other guys on Saturday said they had similar problems with #83 and would rather do 2-3 passes with #80 than work with #83.

What we need is a version of #80 with more cutting power...ie #80 on steroids!
