  • Fixed location questions

I am looking to get back into the detailing world. I did some mobile detailing a few years ago but have questions about having a fixed location. I now own my own house. I have a large three car garage and live in a somewhat busy area yet a quiet street. Not out in the country. I would like to detail for money again. I think it would be so convienent to do it out of my garage. I have plenty of space and all of my supplies is here. Does anyone here detail from home? I am starting to think that no one would ever drop their car at a strangers house to detail it. Am I wrong? It would be perfect for me. Then again they always say word of mouth is the best form of advertisment. If someone knows I do a good job maybe it would be worth it to them. The thing that bugged me about mobile was I would go places that had very little space to work or even worse no garage. I always felt like I was rushing to beat daylight. Not to mention the gas and time involved loading and unloading everything. I am just thinking of ideas and throwing things around in my head. Any info is greatly appreciated. Especially input from out of home detailers if there are any.

    Thank you!

Im in the same boat with you. I have a 3rd garage that i store my supplies in. I am mobile btw. Word of mouth is great. As long as you do good work and you are trustworthy people wouldnt mind. Im hoping your home and neighborhood looks presentable.

I'm looking to start the same, from home. I work shifts and would be doing the detailing through the week on days off, for some beer tokens! I've had a look and because I'm starting completely fresh (no other detailing exp) I will be starting with friends cars and seeing how that goes/grows. I'm in no hurry to expand but would be interested in any tips/tricks to be posted here.
      Good luck!

I think it's a great idea if it's something you have knowledge of and just have the desire to do. In my opinion most Detail guys / gals have a pretty articulate demeanor that I think translates into your personality and everything else so I wouldn't stress too much over doing it from home. It's a smart move to help you actually make money and not go belly-up in a tough economy with a brick and mortar store front.

I have been doing detail work for a couple years from my home in Ohio, and this past year marks my first year making a living solely from it. Word of your work will get you where you want to be, just exercise some patience and do what you know how to do!

        Good luck!
