  • Smartphone Credit Card Readers

Just wondering if any of our professional members have adopted the use of any of the Smartphone Credit Card Readers? Seems that this would be a logical way to expand business by opening up your services to those folks who may not have the cash on hand to pay for a detail, or those who might put off a detail until their paycheck deposits or they get that tax return.

PayPal and Intuit are the 2 big players right now, and I know that PayPal charges 2.7% per transaction. For anyone using it, how has it worked for you? Are you satisfied with the security of the transaction? Better yet, are your customers OK with you running their cards through your phone? Do you have to have an established business to use the readers?

I use intuit gopayment and It works very well for me. I suggest you get a reader it will expand your biz and help you upsell services. Also I have found most customers who pay with card also give a nice cash tip as well.

I started using the Square card reader almost two years ago and love the simplicity and ease of it since I'm 100% mobile. The rates are 2.75% and they give you the reader for free, so very competitive and it even allows me to take payments over the phone by typing in the number for customers who are buying gift certificates or paying remotely.

It still costs money, and because of this I tell customers that I prefer cash or check (since both are free to deposit), but that I am completely set up for cards too if that is best for them. I would highly recommend one of these systems, especially if you are mobile. And I have yet to have a customer feel weird about me running their card on my phone (in fact, most get excited because its the first time they've got to use one). Hope this helps.

I recommend quicken. Quicken has the strongest encryption technology.

+1. Pretty similar to what all the airlines do for their services. Most people are familiar with it and not concerned security.

I've used Square since I started.
            It's awesome!!! There website rocks.
            It's my cash register too.
I get all my sales in one easy place, with spreadsheets and everything. I can always check my sales, anywhere.
I charge my customers a 5% convenience fee to use a CC, they don't mind and I don't get CC's that much

I have Square on my IPhone. Haven't had to use it yet. Everyone pays me in cash so far.

Like most things detailing, everyone has an opinion. I use PayAnywhere. i have never used the others but there are things i dont like. You have to keep up on what they are charging, ive caught them over billing me a couple of times. A quick call and it was taken care of. They recently changed their app and i really think it was a down grade from the old one. This all being said, to be a professional and to give off the cutting edge image, you have to be able to accept plastic. There is no getting around it these days.
