I have been approached by many, but haven't taken an offer yet. I'm just me, so what they want done (quantity not quality) takes up way too much of my time. If personally rather stick to individuals because they pay more and are usually more interested in the quality of work, which is where I'd prefer to keep my business.
I did some work for a local auto auction once. Never again, I did one truck for them sort of a tryout to see if they wanted to use me. It was a full size dodge and they wanted everything done, paint correction, interior, engine everything. In my market area I can charge someone $350-400 for the works on a full size truck. Took me about 10 hours and they were very happy with the truck and paid me my asking price. Now here's where it gets fun... The fleet manager took me into his office and said "We can give you one truck a day for however long you want to do them. But we will only pay $100 per truck." I kindly said thanks but no thanks and left. I will never work for a dealer/auction again unless it's on my terms and I get a contract.
AFJ it's funny that you said that because I had this guy that bought cars from auctions and wanted me to do the full package. Interior shampoo, paint correction, the works. He wanted to pay me 60 per vehicle because he said he can bring me at least two cars a week. I just had this look on my face like "are you kidding me?"
there are no "dealer Detailers" here. They are hacks and don't know what detailing is.
Stay away from dealers unless they pay full price plus a tip.
Dealers ****. Stay away from them.
The reason I started this thread was to see how this form of work is paning out for other detailing businesses elsewhere. This thread only confirmed what I am seeing out here by me. They are shysters.

Bro, hopefully u still have that sweet gig with that private collector with a garage load of cars? Dealership detailers work for volume and turnover, using dealership supplies which often equate into cheap products. My Honda dealership offers detail packages for $100-$200, but their detailers use Harbor Freight rotaries and generic polishes and waxes. Paying for a dealership detail is akin to accepting an OMG FREE CARWASH! It's a HOV highway to hologram city...
They are called fleet washers. A few mins per job like you would get at an automatic car wash with spray on wax over dirt around the edges. Car wash style.
I recently got approached by a dealer to do some cars for them but as usual they want everything done and they pay peanuts...
$100 sg per car and I had to polish add Sealent fully clean interior, engine and almost everything.
If it was an outside customer I could charge around $250 to $300 for a job like this.
Well I did one car and never returned. Oh and they also give timing per vehicle that I'm suppose to do
