Heyy I didnt know if I could put this hear or not. If not dont get to mad at me too much. Anyways me and my buddy wants to start a detailing business, nothing to big right now. Just like family members cars and friends and some strangers. I have a few questions like should we get bonded? Have insurance? Where can we go to get professional products? Most likely all work will be done out of our driveways or we will give a slight discount if we go to their house and use their water.Any tips you can give to help us out would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 2 guys and a detailing passion
I would consider having your clients sign a document indicating any pre-existing flaws in the paint that you won't be able to correct, ie dents, deep scratches etc..as far as insurance, yes, you might want to consider it especially if you're going to someone elses home/business....in terms of where to go to get "professional" products, Meguiars products are sold in many places online which seems to be the way most people are getting their hands on these products. Good luck...you already have the passion which is important!!Bill Poirier

Yeah I was thinking of having my clients sign a paper of some sort. Id also walk around the car with them and point out things i can fix and what I cannot so if they didnt know of a certain dent or something i wouldnt be liable for it. Ill have to check with the insurance making sure that it wont be to expensive... If business grows ill definitly get insurance. Yeah it seems like online is where to get most of the products, I just dont like using online buying cuz I dont want someone to steal my identity lmao..Yes passion is important. Thanx for the tips-Sohc-

Re: 2 guys and a detailing passion
i recently started my own mobile car detail business. First thing is to get a business license and insurance. Its not really needed, but protect your self from lawsuits. Its worth it. a million dollar liability insurance for 44 a month isn't to bad. you will really want insurance for paint correction, headlight restoration or stain removal. if your just washing and vacuuming then i wouldn't bother right now. I take a few photos of every car I do, part of my collection, but also get things in writing. Email estimates, write something down and have the owner sign and agree.
i use optimum no rinse to wash cars. its 2-3gallons of water per car. my city said nothing goes down the drain. they don't want car soap suds going down storm drains. its best to dump onr on grass. the dirt filters the dirty water. After a business licence and insurance make a website and a crag's list add. start applying for bids at various local companies to wash fleet cars like the postal office, used car lot, large companies, hotels, wherever.
Last thing is to promote, promote, promote. this is a word of mouth business. do some free car washes at a local gas station.
as to water sometimes i bring my own, its a 3 gallons in the back of my car in a bucket. or i may use there water. i wash at there home, driveways, at there gym, on the street, wherever.

Don't discount your mobile service. Water is cheap. The person paying the water bill will never notice the little amount of water you will use. Gas on the other hand is not cheap. Charge accordingly. Do a good job for your customer and they won't mind paying you a reasonable amount.
