  • Getting Started

Right, I'm about to move out in a few months to the Orlando area. I'd like to get myself a job that I can actually enjoy and bear. The more I read about, and the more I detail my car, I think I may be able to manage a small mobile detailing business.

I've already got the DA, and products, buckets, microfibers, vacuum and I'm pretty confident with my ability to detail. I don't plan on offering anything extreme like orange peel removal, but I do plan on being able to handle swirl removal and all that.

I plan on being able to drive to customers' homes and detail in their driveways. Now, my car is a Jaguar Xj6. Plenty of room in the trunk to bring all of my necessary materials, but water is a big question that comes to mind. I certainly cannot bring a tank of water, and cannot afford a trailer, and trailer hitch for my car, or any of that. Would it be okay to bring my own hose, and just let clients know in advance that I would need a source of water? Right now, it seems that is my first main hurdle to get over. I know more questions will come, but the water issue is one that I cannot seem to think of another way to overcome.

What about using Optimum No Rinse. You would only need a couple buckets of water using ONR.

      Re: Getting Started

      hey !!
That's how i first started!!! Every car i did people were fine with me using there water and power but i always did more then what i told them like conditioning the leather or spot cleaning the carpets. People really don't have a problem with it but some housing areas don't allow you to wash cars. The reason i built my trailer was because people wanted me to come to there work. I built mine for $1500 but i did it all myself so i saved tons of money, the most costly is the pressure washer since it has a triplex pump.

      have fun detailing!!!

Super! I'll have the hose for the really dirty cars, and offer something like Optimum for a 'greener' alternative. It's easy to have a few 5 gallon buckets with lids in the car. If I plan everything correctly, I should be able to get everything I'll need for the start at under $100 (since I've already got most everything).

99% of customers are fine with you using their water/electricity. You won't meet as much resistance to car washing from the neighbors as you might think.
