Any ballpark suggestions for price? Plan so far includes, possibly in this order:

    1. Interior Vacuum
    2. Cloth surface shampoo using D102
    3. Leather surface work using Gold Class Leather Clean
    4. All non leather/cloth surfaces cleaned and dressed with Ultimate Protectant
    5. Interior/Exterior Glass clean using NXT Glass Cleaner and window cleaning microfiber
    6. Car Wash using Gold Class Car Shampoo
    7. Clay horizontal surfaces using Gold Class Clay Bar with included Quik Detailer
    8. ScratchX where necessary
    9. Either SwirlX all surfaces or use a polishing compound, whichever you guys suggest
    10. Wax all surfaces including rims post wash with #21 2.0 - Thank you Murr1525 for that suggestion
    11. Clean tires with ArmorAll all purpose cleaner but absolutely taking better suggestions
    12. Clean wheels with ArmorAll Wheel cleaner but again, absolutely taking better suggestions
    13. Tire shine with Black Magic Tire Wet - I got it for 2.99 plus free applicator =/
    14. Pictures before and after if I receive his consent so that I can find out how to improve myself and to post here to be critiqued!

Any steps I should add or remove?
Any products to add or remove?
Most of what you have sounds good...quick suggestion with washing...
Use one dedicated mitt/sponge or whatever your using for the TOP portion of the car (i.e everything above the lowest pannels on the car) and then use a sponge or differnt mitt (personally i use a MF sponge with MF on 2 sides and mesh on 2 sides for stuck on stuff) for the lower portion, still working from top to bottom. Just get a little $2 from walmart and that way when its trashed its easy to replace. Also if you clean it out as soon as your done using it..even just a good hose down, you'll extend its life quite a bit.

Not sure how extensive your washing process is, but 2 bucket method is a good idea...sheeting is a life saver (running a solid stream of water over the whole car to 'sheet' the water off...makes towel drying faster). Make sure you're in the shade of course for everything.

The only thing i'd change if i were you is your wheel/rim cleaning. Personally for rims...99% of the time if you just make sure you have some clean soapy water (whatever car wash your using) and a soft sponge (MF is what i use) almost all the brake dust/grime etc will come off WITHOUT using harsh chemicals. If it doesnt just wipe off and you find yourself using a lot of pressure...then use a rim cleaner to break it up...just make sure to not let it set too long and rinse it completely clean.

For tire CLEANING ive never used armorall for it but then again im not a big fan of their products in most cases. Personally i use an Megs APC+ 10:1 (all purpose cleaner plus) Its only about $15 for a gallon and you can dilute it to many different strengths. You will ALWAYS be using this stuff so its a great investment...tires...carpet..interrior ...works on all of it just be sure to spray it on...let it set for a SHORT time and maybe scrub it with whatever brush your using for that job....then wipe/rinse it clean.

For dressing I think your black magic will do...but if you get into doing this a lot invest in a dilutabe type of dressing or just a better dressing all the way around.

I think your about set...for pricing thou...wellllll I really dont know what to tell you there lol

Really good idea about the two dedicated mitts, I will definitely be doing that now along with the two bucket method. Sheeting is a lifesaver!

I will definitely have to evaluate his rims to see how bad they are, hopefully they wont need a wheel cleaner

After this job I will be using the funds to purchase the larger size Meguiar's products.

This price thing is killing me. He is my first PAYING customer but not my neighbor.

Yeah I have a bout 4 mitts for just upper body and about 4 sponges for lower body and then a couple sponges for just rims. Try to leave the REAL crappy areas for last...like the wheel wells and the actual UNDER side lip of all the cars (i think a lot of car owners never even touch that part so you will get some nasty stuff from there).

Thats a good idea to reinvest your money into product. Try to take 1/2 or so of what you make and reinvest it if you can (well you know your financial situation better than me but i think thats a good baseline to go off of). Dont blow it all thou (like me lol)

Real quick, are you doing this at his house or your house or what...and sorry my mistake for thinking he was your neighbor, how did you get the job?

At his place, I met him because I had to pick him up for my job, and he noticed my car and asked if that was something Enterprise did, but I said no, I do that on my own time. Well one thing led to another and I got my first job!

Well sounds to me like you did a pretty good job on your own ride so as long as you can duplicate what you did to your own ride with his, you should be pretty good. Maybe google some detailers in your area and get some pricing ideas...

Best of luck with this. It's always great seeing other Midwesterners on the boards as there appears to be a lack of top-notch detailers in our region.

                  Sorry for the delay!

The particular guy ended up just trading in his car before I could detail it, but now I have a black M35x to do. I am a bit more excited about that because with enough work I should really be able to make it shine!

                      Re: First Detailing Job

Gotta get that camera! I have a feeling that I won't be getting a call from that guy. I have started working on my website and developing my business plan for the mobile detailing. I may be putting my car in a show this Wednesday, but being 16 years old and the old owner abusing it, it will take some serious work and some heavy time with the buffer. I will try to get pictures for that too!

Make that next wednesday, these delays are killing me! I should be able to get the buffer sometime between now and then, and I will try to get before and after photo's.

                            Re: First Detailing Job

From the sound of a lot of your posts I think you still have a LOT of research to do before you get into charging customers for work, especially if they are expecting any level of paint corretion.

Get yourself a DA buffer, pads, M105/205 and practice practice practice. It takes a lot of practice to know the speed you need to move at, the amount of pressure to apply and the amount of time it takes for a product to break down.

BTW about the claying the glass comment making it worse (when the custome requested Rain-X). The Claybar would completely remove any hydrophobic effect that was present on the windshield and it would result in sheets of water being present on the glass rather than beads of water (much like paint that isn't waxed) and would hinder vision. Claying the glass is a great idea to clean it up, but it should be followed up with some form of product that will produce a beading effect.
