  • What to charge to spray wax?

I have a job lined up for tomorrow to spray wax about 25-30 Muscle cars with a quick detailer. The cars are all clean with a light coating of dust on them that mostly sit under a car cover. I was thinking anywhere from 2-5 bucks per car. Does that sound about right? It should only take a few minutes per car...Thanks!

How many MF towels are you going to need for this job? How long is it going to take to wash and restock them? How much detailer are you going to do through? Consider all of this in your charge.

Normally when detailing a vehicle the number of MF is not much to consider as they are not that many and the work being done to the vehicle includes this time. But this type of work is different. The question needs to be asked, why don't the owners simply wipe them down. I'm guessing the answer is that they don't have the supplies and/or don't want to take the time to clean up.

I think it will take you more than a few minutes to spray down each car. I would say about $10 per car, but it depends on what your local market will pay.

I'm actually using his spray wax that he prefers. And he doesn't have the time to do it himself.

I would charge by the hour since that will eliminate the risk of over or under estimating. Tell him upfront that you want $X per hour and that you expect it to take X-Y hours.

Then decide what your time is worth an hour.

Hourly is the right way to go.

Jus tto add, you probably will need to QD them first, then QW.

Wouldnt want to just QW or UQW a dusty surface.

I agree with Mark sometimes it can be hard to make a price for a bunch of cars.

Yeah I agree with mark, hot rod and dave about the hourly rate, but then again like you stated price per car can be rounded out easily.

Since they all have light dust on them and your going to have to remove it, I would use a california car duster and just barely let the duster skim the surface and work slow to remove the dust, don't apply pressure or drag the duster across the surface.

I think your going to be spending at least 20 minutes per car maybe alittle longer. That will be 4 cars in about 1hour20minutes, 25cars in about 8hours30minutes then lunch so your looking at spending about 9-10 hours there.

                    @ $4 a car for 25 cars = $100.00 @ say for 8.30 hours = $11.76 per hour
                    @ $5 $125.00 = $14.70 per hour
                    @ $6 $150.00 = $17.64 per hour
                    @ $7 $175.00 = $20.58 per hour
                    @ $8 $200.00 = $23.52 per hour

Now my math may be off alittle but hope this helps out for the price and time frame.

                    Good luck

I ended up charging per vehicle and the customer was very happy. It was a bit more work then I anticipated. He also wanted the vehicles vacummed, dust wiped from the interiors, and the glass cleaned. I charged $20 per vehicle and we both walked away happy. Thanks again guys!
