need opinions

Hi i have a 97t-bird laser red paint. I was looking for some peoples opinions on what to get as a process for the car. So far i have got some suggestions they were 83,82,nxt and since i like to wax frequently i would do 81 followed by nxt probably monthly. But my question is would 82 be a good follow up to 83 becuase i think that they are both abrasive. Wouldn't it work just as good to follow up with 81 then wax? Ok one more I am worried about removing to much clear coat. I am going to be taking your guys word for this if you say that it would be a good idea to do a complete detail for the first time using this process or could you suggest another i am still a little worried about the 83 and the 83 followed by another abrasive 82.

It would be helpful if we could see some pictures of your paint's current condition. It will be helpful to see how swirls you have and how many Random Isolated Deeper Scratches you have.

the spot are only on the spoiler only i really dont have any scratches that i can grab my nail on they are for the most part extremely shallow or light.

Here is a quote from Mike Pennington about #83 removing clear coat:

You can use DACP over and over and over with a PC with no problems of removing too much material and causing any type of paint failure.

So based on that I would not worry about removing too much clear coat. I would use a PC and a polishing pad just to be safe though. Meguiar's does not reccommend using the cutting pad with the G-100.

As for which products to use, Meguiar's philosophy is:

"Always use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

That being said, you may want to try #82 first and do a test spot to see if #82 removes the swirls. If swirls still remain then you can step up to #83.

83 then 82?

would 83 then 82 be a little over kill? Either way would 81 be a good non abrasive to follow up that with? And use monthly with wax?

If you decide that #83 is needed, do the car then inspect your results. I find that sometimes I able to go from #83 directly to wax. On other cars I need to use a less aggressive cleaner/polish like #82 to remove some of the "haziness" left from #83. It really is a judgement call.

You can then use #81 if you want to. It is a pure polish with no abrasives.

When you wax monthly whether you use a pure polish or not is up to you. The best way to decide on anything is to do a test spot and compare the results and see if the improvement is worth it.

Just to add....

You must be careful! If the scratches to be removed are on the bumper area, you must first consider what is below the paint! Often, a bumper like yours is made of a composite material. Moreover, since it is flexible, a flex agent would have been added to the paint. Therefore, you must treat it differently than the rest of the car. Ie. Do not work the area as long.
