  • What do you think of my site so far?

    Ok, so It's a work in progress. It's far from done, and some things need some improvements;

I plan on adding to the FAQ, I need to get more pics up in the Gallery, and the list goes on....

I do not intend for this site to BRING me business... not yet.

It is strictly for people interested in hiring me to see what it is I do. It is a place for me to post pics, and a list of my services. It's something for someone I give my card to look at.

You will notice I did not list pricing, and that is due to the fact that I offer free estimates. Putting pricing up can be misleading, as some people don't realize that different vehicles in different conditions will require different steps and more or less time.

I do have a pricing list that i go by, but I wouldn't want to go out to a job and then say. Ok that'll be about $300... Then they say "but why does it say $180 on your site?!!?"

I just rather leave pricing out. If they want a ball park fuigure they can contact me... It also weeds out non serious customers. The fact they have to e-mail me (also notice no number listed) means only serious inquirys only... And then I can see whether I actually know this person or not... And whether they seem legit...

Other than that... Is there anything that can be improved? Keep in mind, this is my part time side job... I may go full time one day (that's the dream) but thats not the case right now...

Looks pretty good, but with a quick glance I didn't see anything about a pricing policy. If you don't want to put your exact prices, I would suggest at least mentioning what type of pricing you use.

Looking good guy! Did you write the code yourself? What did you use to design the background image and links?

I'm about tired of messing with Dreamweaver and trying to straighten out it's quirks. I think I've found a guy to build me a site in exchange for detailing his Chevy truck. Either that or I'm just going to have to start from scratch and build a template so all pages are based on the same navigation and header. I still can't find what's causing navigation links on some pages to jump when most don't. There must be attribute conficts in the code somewhere.

      Nice work!

        Great depth in color.

The main website body is covering up the bottom google advertising. So with IE7, it only shows a portion of the advertising...this is via IE7. You should check with all browers and do hacks to cover them all if possible.

10degreebtdc, he is using avanquest soft ware...you can check what folks do with sites by checking the VIEW SOURCE found on the browers.

I fully agree with Mark. You can put estimates based on car class (e.g., SUV = $180 for full hand wash, wax, engine and interior cleaning). Also, you can always put a disclaimer on your site (e.g., THE PRICES LISTED ABOVE ARE ESTIMATES THE PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE. ON SITE EVALUATION IS THE BEST METHOD TO OBTAIN AN ACCURATE PRICE QUOTE - Thank You, Management). I design websites as a hobby and my goal is if the person looking at the site can't find what they are looking for in 5 minutes or less then I have failed. Other than that the site looks good. Oh, remember the oldest rule in the book....KISS (Keep it Simple Silly). Good luck. Hope it all works out for you.

Forgot, do you own your domain name??? If so I used MicroSoft Small Business online one time for a friend and it was really simple and gave great stats. The price was real cheap. Just a thought.

Just a small thing I noticed you might want to change the title's on each page, they all say home.

You need more examples of cars, because I look at that website and think, "this guy has only done his moms car, why would I hire him to do my new vette."

                    Just a thought.

I realize that.... and like I said I have more pics to put up but I have too many jobs to finish first...

Not my moms car, but thanks...

I think the $60,000 harley speaks for itself. And the guy has another bike, a truck, 2 actually, and a RT8. I'll be sure to get those up when they're done.

No, I diidnt write any code. The software I got was fairly easy to use.... ONCE you figure it out...

I used one of the hundreds of templates that it came with... this was the only one that really did anything for me.

This program has its share of quirks as well. Most of the problems I had were with the shadow on the titles on the pages. I COULD NOT get them to show up. they would be on some pages then not others... I would fix that and then the others would get screwed up. Once i got that figured out it was fine.

And yes, links can be a bugger.

Mine would not work, and I found that it was because of how I linked it. ex. "Gallery" I just typed in gallery, but because I didn't use an upper case "G" It would just send you smewhere else.

The most idiot proof way is to link by page number but that can get confusing with a large site with lots of links....
