  • Starting a detailing side job while in school, need critique on first job

Hey guys, new here but have lurked a few times before. I'm trying to start up a new side job of detailing since it's one of my hobbies that I'm good at. Got a chance to do a Mark III supra that was in bad condition. To make it easier I'm just gonna copy and paste the thread I made on another forum. Tell me what ya'll think!

Got a chance to do a friend's car for next to nothing so that my work could get some views by other people and hopefully some business. Car is a Mark III supra. He has a few things done to it, including an upgraded ct-26 turbo. It should trap around 117mph or so in the 1/4 mile. Anyways, it was originally a red car and had a repaint done a few years ago to black with blue pearl. Well he was busy putting the engine together and a few other things and never really took care of the exterior. I offered my services in return for some word of mouth advertising. Only worked on exterior paint and put in about 7 hours with a few breaks here and there. Used a LC CCS orange and white pads, meguiars #83, 3m finesse it II, mother's clay bar, off brand rotary, and Zaino Z2 (need to order some Z5 for these black cars!). Here are the pics in a somewhat chronological order.

Ya, I didn't think to use the macro setting on the camera. Unfortunatly the car is in a town 45 min from me. As you can see from some pics there were still some bigs swirls left. I kept in contact with the owner during the process and advised him of this. I told him I could go deeper and remove them, but I wasn't comfortable doing so because it was a cheap repaint on the car and I didn't have a depth gauge. He agree with me and we left it as is. But, when he picked up the car he was absolutely floored and couldn't stop thanking me. Made doing the job for free worth it.
