traveling by air for detailing jobs - how to carry products?

OK, so I have a chance to go to PR for some detailing, mostly friends and friends of friends cars, at least helps cover my vacations However, I cannot imagine the TSA would enjoy looking at a suitcase full of bottles with strange liquids and stuff written in sharpie all over, with a few bars of "plastic explosive" looking clay. Does anyone fly out to do special jobs? If so, do you take your products with you?

So far my options are to carry the tools (pads, buffer, towels, brushes), and just buy any OTC stuff there (hopefully find at least Ultimate and a Glaze or two). But I would like to carry some of my "special" waxes and I cannot live without APC and hyper dressing...

Thoughts?

you cant bring more than 3 ounce bottles of liquids in a carry on..

just dedicate one checked bag to all your detailing stuff, bottles, machinery, towels etc. it will be just fine

all they will do is maybe open it up and look through it

Your talking about your carry-ons
Your checked luggage can have any amount of liquid in it, within the FAA guide lines.
Check the FAA website for more info.
Also you can just ship them.

The few people I know that do this kind of thing FedEx the stuff out and pick it up when they get there. Of course they make the customer pay for it.

I travel out to California a few times a year to detail. I pack everything in my checked bags and have never had an issue. Just make sure you put some plastic wrap between the cap and the bottle itself. Also, don't even think of flying with spray bottles of product. They will leak all over. Ask me how I know....

Whenever I do a job out of state, that requires me to bring my supplies, I always ship UPS a few days ahead of time, then ship it back when I'm finished.

TSA will allow you to bring some things in your CHECKED luggage. But how trustworthy are you of the airlines employees? How hard do you think it would be to toss around your bag and break a bottle open? I'd rather not chance it, but thats just me.

Oh, and I also work for an airline, and I won't check a single thing if I can get away with it

I hope you have put your prices up abit mate as it sounds like its going to be quite costly. Freight company's always make alot of moneys on paper work some will also charge more on cubic rather than the weight. Make sure you package everthing up nice and tight more tape the better. How is your normal post system over there? Send it express with a tracking number just the chemicals maybe, Take the more expensive stuff as hand luggage. Just a thort. Good luck.

Maikolo, Air Freight Forwarders base rates on weight or dimension, which ever is greater. Also Fed Ex and UPS does the same thing. All Cargo Aircrafts and or Passenger Aircrafts both have specs on weight and space that they cannot exceed.
