How well does M40 hold up on tires?

Hmmm not sure, I have only used it on the interior. I know Mike Phillips has used it before, I would see what he says.
I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
Remove swirls my friends. -

I have used it on tires before and it kind of just leaves a nice black matte look and not so much a "dressed" look. Either way, it should hold up pretty well and clean/condition the tire.Nick
