  • Bookkeeping?

How do you do your bookkeeping? Keeping track of customers names, addresses, work done for them. Getting invoices out, make sure they get paid, keeping track of expenses.

Right now I use a notebook and Microsoft Word. lol

A few years ago I bought Quickbooks Pro and Microsoft Money Small Business. I just never had time to learn either one. I ended up using Money to balance my personal checkbook.

Just wondering if it pays for me to spend time learning one. Or if I should buy yet another product or revise my notebook method. Things are getting too complicated now for the way I am doing it.

I've sure learned that there is more to running a business than knowing how to perform the service you offer.

A large brightly colored 3 ring binder Then alphabetize the names with small page tabs on each sheet with the letters and what not.

I prefer not to keep it on the PC just in case if the computer is fried or something else happens.

      I have a Binder also.
Basically inside are a bunch of invoices.
Since I am basically doing friends, I know where they live.

IF you're just keeping track of customers and how much you charge them, then a notebook is probably all you need...if you're trying to keep track of how much your business is making which would mean expense tracking etc etc, then Quickbooks or a similar small business program would be very helpful...all depends on what you're trying to do I guess..

Been using an app on my iPod Touch to keep track of things so far. Does all the above including credit card transactions if necessary (need internet or EDGE for that). Seems to be working quite well.

App is called, "RingItIP" on my homescreen. Great for when I'm mobile and I need to send a receipt to their email or whatever

yup, alot of people argue with me that it's not worth it, but they're just wrong, a computer program can't get you the deductions that a well trained accountant can
