  • Training

I am looking for training. I am looking at one place in San Diego in particular. What I want is to learn the stuff that your average detailer can nor do. For example, polishing, minor scratch removal, heavy oxidation, etching, and water spot removal etc... I would prefer to work on real cars not in a training environment. The ideal situation would be to work with a pro for free, I will even pay to work! feel free to PM me or post. I am looking to start my business next spring.

    Re: Training

Well, your best bet is to attend the classes here. There's one this Saturday.

        Re: Training

I highly recommend the training at Meguiars to teach you the basics of paint care, tool use and product selection. It was well worth the expense for me to travel to their site for the beginning and advanced classes. If you can supplement the knowledge you gain from these classes with an apprenticeship type program working with a detailer that is sucessful at the target market you hope to go after, it would be a great start. Understand that a sucessful detailing business requires that you not only have technical skills, but sound business skills and practices. Educate yourself on the "business" side of things, as well.

        Never stop learning!

I will check them out, I was wondering how deep they went in the advanced classes. I owned a successful carpet cleaning business for many years so I have a good handle on how to run a service business. I just need to learn the technical skills.I will take a look. Thanks

            Re: Training

We had a full-time, professional detailer attend our Advanced Class #2 that has attended all the classes in this area, I'll shoot him an e-mail and ask him to chime in.

Our Car Care 101 and 201 classes focus on head knowledge first and then hands-on training to back-up the head knowledge and it's proven to be very successful.

              Re: Training

Another option is one-on-one training with Renny Doyle at DetailingSuccess.com

I've attended a portion of Renny's seminar and the portion I attended was packed with information on running the business side of a detailing business and over the long run, that's as important and actually more important than knowing how to run the buffer.

We had a Professional Detailer attend our Advanced Class #2 and he went to the class you're referencing in San Diego and his comment was he learned more at our Saturday Car Care 101 class and our Advanced Car Care 202 Class and our classes are free. (He said the other class was like an all day sales pitch, not education and training).
