Hey Meguiars, where are your commercials with the hot chicks swarming around the shiny car?

1.2% increase in MPG is the scientific researched number. Comes out to roughly $0.03-0.06 savings per gallon. An unclean car may not seem like an aerodynamic issue but it is. All of the dirt and bonded contaminates create drag, more drag ='s less MPGs.

Over the years I've noticed that cars that are noticeably detailed, that is it's obvious the car is maintained on a regular basis, washed and waxed, tires dressed, interior clean, that when taken in for mechanical work that the car gets more respect, as in the mechanic probably won't set his wrench down on the fender nor his can of Coke on the deck-lid. (They'll do this to the dirty cars in the garage)

          Just an observation....

VERY good points, and very true. I worked at a Ford dealership and some of the mechanics mentioned that they respect well cared for vehicles more- and keeping a car detailed falls into that category.

Think about it, if a mechanic sees a car that looks like complete **** is it likely he will go the extra mile to make sure his work is 100% perfect? Likewise, if he sees that the owner is anal-retentive about keeping the finish well cleaned and protected do you think he might think twice before attempting to cut corners?

Another huge plus IMO is the fact that owners tend to take more pride in their cars when they are nice and clean. The pride turns into happiness and a better driving and ownership experience.

Chicks do dig clean cars. Today after class 2 of my classmates both girls, I have been friends with for a couple of years wanted to go get some food so I offered to drive them, Well the first thing they said was Wow what a clean car. If you go after a younger group in your marketing stratagy I think it would be good business

All excellent points. Mike I had never thought of the mechanic angle... that makes a lot of sense! This is definitely giving me some ideas.

First off, a clean (properly detailed) car is a representation of your personality. My father-in-law has a mobile business. His first bit of advice to me was to always maintain the cleanliness and organization of your work vehicle. This projects in image of being professional, detail oriented, and fluent in their respective craft. Image is everything to securing new clients and maintaining a dedicated client base.

Second, admittedly, I am OCD and like a bit of order. Properly cleaning and protecting my car is for me is a simple, relaxing endeavor. My primary vehicle is used for commuting, sits outside 24 hours a day , exposed to all Maryland has to offer, and yet I have people commenting on the quality of the paint (even asking if I had it repainted, not bad for an 7year old , single stage red paint on a vehicle with 150k mileage)

Third, a properly detailed vehicle has led me to detail some of my friends and coworker's cars. It has also led to offers to when I sell my current vehicle and will definitely impact resale value (mine not so much due to the mileage).

Finally, when you are trying to convince a prospective client, tell them that this will actually make it easier for them to maintain the vehicle. Even if it is a one time detail, walk the customer through how to properly clean and maintain the vehicle. This enpowers them to be proactive in protecting their vehicle (still the 2nd highest expense for most people) and will yield a productive relationship with them and possibly other clients. Best of luck (and thanks for listening to my 2 cents)
