  • Make Your Business A Family Affair

It seems like yesterday I was in my early twenties and starting my first business. Now, some twenty years later I look back at what has made life easier...running your own gig can be demanding and the hours long.

Here are some pointers from a guy that has been around the block a few times within this fantastic industry.

    • Never stop having fun - When you stop having fun, make a huge change and change your routine!
    • Remember...you work to live...not live to work. Hard work is needed within your own business but smart work is the way to go!
    • Do what is right...for you and your customer
    • Love what you do...have a deep passion
    • Be the best at what you do. I am in my 40's now and I learn daily
    • If you have a family or when you have a family, get them involved. They need to know what Dad, Mom or both of you do! Kids love to detail and there is no reason they can't help out know and again.

Here is my family sharing a prideful moment after we finished up Air Force One...do you think I am a proud Dad or what...we all have great kids and mine are FANTASTIC!

Happy detailing all and remember...Detailing is a family affair!

    Hey Renny,

Very nice family. It is great to keep everyone informed and involved. Though some/most of us work long hours it is even better when you can include your family in some projects with you. It's kinda like our own form of family time.

Great family shot Renny, it's great to see you share your profession and your passion with your family. Teaching your kids a strong work ethic will pay-off great dividends when they get older.

Re: Make Your Business A Family Affair

Thanks all...as for the five kid comment...my wife LOVEEEEED it! Mike, as much as we are into detailing, each time we talk it's 90% about family and life.

One point I failed to mention, a number of years ago one of my mentors pulled me aside one day and said, "Renny...you are a hard working guy and you are skilled at what you do...BUT...if you want to be happy, truly happy...stop chasing business and start chasing life and watch business then chase you".

All I can tell you is that is was a hard move to go from driven and stressed to relaxed and FUN again...but you know what...it worked. Once I started to chase what life has to offer...business started to chase me.

My family details with me at times...even my brothers have jumped in at times and for many years, my Mom ran my office there in So Cal. My family knows my mission and they like the chaser of life Dad much more then the business Dad...

Even my Dog was a car guy (in this case a bike guy). Mckinley passed away three months ago and he was co-worker...he worked with me, slept at the side of my bed...rode in my Chevelle and within this shot...he loved loading and unloading the chopper...sure miss him but we had eleven years as life, car and fun buddies...so surround yourself with family and share your business with them...it will keep you sane and centered and they really do enjoy it...even the furry family members do...enjoy all!

That's one BAD looking bike and the dog just screams...

Don't mess with the bike man... you mess with the bike and I take you down...

                            Thanks for all the comments!

The bike is OK...the dog was my best friend. I would give that bike away a million times over to still have my buddy by my side!

Bikes come and go...friends are hard to find and he was my buddy!
