  • Advice needed on OEM paint

    DEar all,

What would be the best range of Meguiars products if majority of my detailing are done on OEM paints?
Would the Mirror glaze, Detailer or Solo lines be the most appropriate?
Thanks everyone for your valuable inputs

A combination of Pro and Detailer, even Consumer.

Solo is for fresh paint coming out of body shops primarily but it too is a great product for "some" OEM paints.

Sorry there's no simple answer as every paint can be different and your goals for your results can greatly affect what you need.

You want a show car finish? You'll want to use a multiple step approach.
You're doing a daily driver for a competitive rate? Then a one-step like M66 from our Professional Line or D151 from our Detailer Line would be a good choice.

A short list of products now days for being able to tackle anything that comes your way would be,

    M105
    D151
    M80
    M09
    NXT or M21 or M26

That's a short list and with a selection of different buffing pads and tools you could conceivably tackle about 95% of anything you work on and produce customer pleasing results.

    Does that help?

      HI Mike,

      Thanks for your help!
I am doing mostly daily drivers and show car detailing. My product range includes all that you've mentioned excluding m09 which i replace it with m82.
Was just wondering whether it is feasible for me to include Solo in my arsenal. So will it be better to stick to m82 or change to m09? And is it OK to use 8in pads with w66 BP?

M82 works great on some cars, but not others. M09 works great on some cars, but not others. As Mike said, there is no one miracle product to meet all of your needs. If you're trying to build a full arsenal of products to prepare you for anything, then both would be a must have.

Solo is a product in my "Must haves" list as well. This is an amazing liquid that seems to work very well on cars straight out of the booth, or factory finishes.

Just to clarify? You want to use our W66 Backing Plate from our Solo Line with our 8" foam buffing pads on a rotary buffer?

It will work but you'll have less pressure and support out to the edge of the Velcro and to the our working surface of the foam pad.

Some people actually like this set-up as it allows for more flex on the edges of the buffing pad. There is no official recommendation for this combo so you are on your own with the results.

I use the Solo backing plate for everything, although I do not use 8" pads. I stick to the 6.5's for everything, plus I can interchange them to use with the DA(can't do that with the 8")

Spot on MIKE!. I'm going to get that w66 BP and try it out. Been using w65 on 8in pads throughout. Thanks
