Just some things that I found out when I was shopping for insurance.

Like stated above...

Liability will cover you if a customer trips over your power cord and bust their head open.

Garage keepers policy will cover you if your cord shorts out and starts a fire, resulting in damage to the customers property. How much coverage do you need? What if their garage burns to the ground also?

Nothing will protect you if you buff through someones paint! Insurance isn't going to cover you for lack of training.

More than likely, a paint burn may result in a repainted panel, which most detailers would pay for out of pocket anyway (since a deductible would probably be @ $500 on most guy's policies if it were to be covered).

Unless you're working on a classic car with original paint. What would the loss be at that point?

I do a lot of classics.....and I mean a lot! Some of my clients have 30-40+ vehicles in their collections. Some are original paint, and in pristine condition. If one panel was to be repainted, it would dramitically drop the value of the vehicle. You could be sued for that value that was lost.

Most of the time, when you have a strike-through, it's because the panel has been repainted or damaged severely because of another lesser-trained professional. If you have the skill, it's almost impossible to strike-through in the middle of the panel. I would hate to have to do a re-paint because of someone else's errors.

Let's keep this thread professional grade...

This is a good thread for sharing information about the insurance side of the detailing business, sometimes it's hard to perceive the tone and inflection of the person posting a reply and it can easily be taken wrong and then a flame war ensues.

So please everyone lets all use common courtesy when participating in this discussion just as though you were in nose punching distance of another member.

Nick - it is my understanding in that case, that if you had a commercial catastrophe policy (aka commercial umbrella policy), you could possibly be covered under it if you were to be sued for diminished value on a classic. Definitely a question for an agent, and something I'd look in to if doing original classics, and exotics.

I get that same error when I tried with IE7. However, works perfectly in FireFox3 - which is what I use, I actually had to dig around to find my IE icon! LOL!
