Whats the best way to remove paint over spray from aircraft paint? Would using a clay bar be enough?

It is still a surface contaminent so I would start with claying the surface after a good wash with something like Gold Class car wash and then inspecting it to see if it was smooth. Do this in a test area before doing the entire car so you know the process to complete on the entire surface. If one pass with the clay was not enough I would try a second pass before thinking about moving on to something else.

What would be the something else? Well this is a large King Air 300, so I'm only removing paint over spray from the effected areas, not the whole aircraft.

Other than clay the only thing I can think of to remove over spray would be something like the Hi-Tech Body Sponge. I've never used a Body Sponge so I can't speak for how well they work. Here are some threads on the Sponge... http://forumarchive.meguiars.com/sea...body+sponge%22

Thanks for the heads up. I'll let you know when I get to see the aircraft. See how bad the over spray is.

Depending on what clay you use (smooth surface white) you could try the blue medium as it will be a little more agressive. The red agressive clay is corse and could leave scratdhes and require more work to remove them.

If that was still not removing all the contaminants I would try a paint cleaner #2 or cleaner/polish #80 although these typically are used for below suface defects. I have seen though, that by using products such as these, putting them on the paint surface and letting them sit for a little bit, but not dry, and then removing it softens up the above surface contaminent enough that it can be removed. When doing this it has been done by hand with either a terri cloth towel or foam applicator to put the product on and a terri or microfiber towel to remove it. Sometimes it has taken me multiple tries but it did come off.

That's not to say it will work every time but I have had some luck using that process.
