  • Starting detail buisness

I am in high school and have not got a drivers lisence yet. I tryed starting a at home detailing business last summer but no one called or emailed me back. I passed out around 100 flyers but not anyone.

I am planning on trying this again next summer. I know how to detail cars but I can not get anyone intrested. I checked local car detailing prices and set mine below thiers. I detail my parents and my cars all the time and I am really good.

What do I have to do to get peoples buisness?

What products do I need to start out with since I dont have alot of money or a car? Chemicals, machines, towels, Wash pads, ect? Just need the nessesities for now.

How did you start your business?

I think you need to talk to people. Go to local car shows, bring business cards. It also depends on what kind of detailing service you want to offer.

I'm 16 and I started a detailing business with my friend before we had our licenses too. Basically how we get customers is by having people see us working on cars outside his house. He works a lot on his own cars and some neighbors started asking if he would do his cars and then when he had more cars to do. Most of out business comes from people stopping us while we were washing other people's cars and we give them a business card. You just have to start slow. We were doing a lot of family vans and sedans, but now that word has gotten around, we've done an M5, some Jaguars, and business has really picked up. I would really recommend getting business cards and a website to get your name around and people will start wanting you to do their cars. Now we have our licenses and can do mobile details, but we lasted a summer without them, and still got some good mondy. Good luck!

Sometimes just handing out random fliers is like trying to sell a Redsox fan a Giants t-shirt. You have to target a specific group. Go to used car dealers, real estate offices and the like.
Well if you don't have any transportation at all your pretty much bound to whatever community you live in. Get involved with the entire process of what you do and really present yourself professionally. It's not all about the price. You have to build trust in the customer for them to be willing to trust their investment to you.
Offer simple services for now and work your way up into more detailed processes like paint correction and the like. Never under price yourself though. Price for what you think your worth. It's hard to change your prices later. If you aren't happy with what you make it will reflect in the work you do.

ok best way to get detailing buisness. start out telling them what you normally charge for cleaning and such. then give a discount on the price. not to much that you are losing money. people go by how much they just saved. the 10% discount is not the way to go as people Do not think it %'s. they think in dollar amounts. so lets say you charge 50 bucks for cleaning normally and lets say you want to give them 25% off. rather then say the 25% off. tell them i am will to give a first time discount price of 37 or 38 dollars. you see what i am getting at. now those aren't actual prices i detail at. but you know what will castro on unique whips said it best. you have to give a little to gain some buisness. but always state what you normally charge right off the bat. that way you not shooting yourself in the foot.
