Do you know what kind of finish it has on it? I mean is it a clear coated paint, a laquer, or a gelcoat like on a boat?

That would affect what kind of products you use.

        Re: Planes What products

In most cases, you're going to want to use a good one-step cleaner wax for the paint. Planes are large and complicated, you certainly don't want to try to do a 3-step, or even a 2-step process. Instead do a SUPER job using a one-step product like our ColorX or M66

Also, many planes use a single stage white paint, this paint will oxidize and become dull. You can remove the oxidation and restore gloss but don't aim for, or promise deep, dark reflections when you're finished.

Another thing to be wary of are sharp edges and rivets. If the plane is assembled using rivets, (common), and you see a lot of sharp edges where on panel ends and overlaps onto a new panel, you can't rub on these things very much or you'll rub through the paint. Machine polishing can be risky so if the plane you're working on has rivets and lots of hard edges you should really consider using a one-step cleaner/wax by hand. Probably our microfiber applicator pad or a piece of terry cloth or a terry cloth covered applicator pad depending upon how bad the finish is. If the paint is heavily oxidized then use terry cloth for more bite. If the paint is in great shape and the owner just wants it waxed for beauty and protection then use our microfiber applicator.

We almost always use the PC on aircraft. Like Mike posted there are allot of sharp edges angles etc.......

                Unearthing this thread:

Unless the plane is really not taken care of, then most aircraft detailers I know use wool pads to machine buff the paint. You just have to keep changing the pads or the build up will cut though the paint on the rivets. They also use rotary machines to buff, set on #2 on the Makita's. This is is painted metal surfaces, not for canvas over wood.

Is cleaner/wax #6 less aggressive than #66 quick detailer.

66 has more cutting power then #6 , i use 66 on alot of my quick details. Works well on paint that has a like new finish.

Yes, Meg's M66 is more aggresve than M06 and it also tends to work better with the rotary from my experience.
