  • Black Jetta hood Stained

hi guys, i finally found how to post a new thread. as you see, im pretty new to this community. well, my point is, i just bought a black Jetta '00 which has a nice black body paint. but, it has some white stains, or worn off paint on the hood. i posted these pictures:

    Check it out.

i dont know why but just the hood is stained. :[
    or whatever that is...

what should i use to fix it?

what should i use to protect the other parts from getting like this?

Hmmm... It looks like oxidation to me. I'm not sure about the white spots.

To fix it, go get some ScratchX, DC1 and DC2, and a wax (which you might have).

The ScratchX, with some passion, will help to remove the oxidation. DC1 will help to maybe remove the white spots. DC2 will add the shine back to the paint. The wax will prevent the paint.

Those white spots might be overspray, but I can't really tell. If the are overspray, a clay kit will take care of it.

If that dont come off it could be early clear coat failure which I hate to say.

I hate to say this, but that sure looks like clear coat failure. Do you know if it is single-stage paint or base coat/clear coat?

Here's my guess. Since it's only the hood I would guess that the care frequently visited some sort of automatic car wash, or at least was often washed when the engine was warmed up. The engine head along with the California sunshine probably spotted the car and broke down the wax before the water could be dried or evaporated.

The pros can tell you best, but probably wash, clay, polish (#80 or #83) and wax/sealant will do it.

Most pics of clearcoat failure that I've seen here look far more drastic and less uniform than this. Maybe you're talking earlier stages than I've seen pictured.

stone chips, some water spots, heavy oxidation and probable clear coat failure on the hood, and the typical scratches in the bumpers(don't remember the correct word for those parts, hope I'm right :S) and bug stains. Those are the defects I can see in your pictures.

some parts might be fixed by wet sanding. I've had repaired some surfaces like those, but I do not assure you it can be repaired completely. there's like a 70/30 chance (being 70 a no)

some parts are alrady way damaged like to try repairing them. IMO, you should send the hood to be repainted.

and in order to keep all the surfaces from getting like this, wax your car frequently, don't use any dishwashing detergents for washing your car, and use the least abrasive products on the market to remove scratches, swirls, and other light defects.

            hope this Helps

I was refering to Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit. It's used after washing to remove bonded contaminates. It won't remove all of your stains, but it will keep you from grinding bonded contaminants into your paint and doing further damage (with the polish).

The pros here (I'm not one) are indicating that it's move involved... and you might need a pro detailer or even paint to fix it.

You can read about most Meguiar's products at Meguiars.com-- link at the top of the forum page. There are multiple product lines -- Consumer, Professional...

                    Re: Black Jetta hood Stained

Sometimes a large picture actually keeps people from seeing the entire picture because it won't fit on the screen inside the message window.

Here's one of your pictures re-sized to 700 pixels wide using Easy Thumbnails.

Since this is a 2000 Jetta, it's likely that the car came with a clear coat finish. Where you see white paint that's either primer or the clear coat has turned white. From the picture we'll guess a combination of clear coat failure and spotting or staining.

Either way, there's nothing you can do to fix this problem except to have it repainted. Otherwise you'll have to learn to live with it.
