  • Going for show car contest to test my skill, what to prepare?

I have been thinking to go for show car contest, the contest is for black car only so meguiar's should stand out.
The problem is I have doubts on my skills compare to those who won before. I have done few black cars before and all my previous customers are more than happy to give a great testimonial. They are not show car judges who can spot mediocre and great detailing job.
So those who already had experiences with this kind of event, can you guys share your thoughts? As far as the tools go I even imported PC7424 with MG backing and pads of course and all I can say is the machine rocks.

Well, I havent entered any myself, but I have seen the cars with awards on them.

Some people seem to win because they got all the dirt off... nevermind the thousands of swirls left behind. Or the body kit they used, etc.

Just depends on what the judges care about.

Right before the show apply #7 over whatever wax you used. If you missed any light swirls they will become invisible for a couple of days.

#7 is a must for black cars. I would apply #7 before a coat of #26, then apply another coat of #7 after the wax.

yeah, that's what I thought. #7 and a little bit thick #26 will hide the swirls.
Basically, they will judge for the typical swirlfree, deep and glossy finish.
My major concern is I am up against the brand I know nothing about like autoglym, 3m, and zymol. Limited time contest so I miss something, I would just hide it.

good brands after all, but the thing that will make the difference is TECHNIQUE so that's your main thing to prepare in my opinion.

and since you have a PC, carry M80, M83, and #7. you can carry M26, M21, or if you can, the legendary M16 Can. and don't forget clean microfiber towels

            hope this helps
