  • What's your Opinion?

    Here's the case:

Someone Does the compound, polishing and waxing products using the following:

Compounding with M85 (no pad specified, but I guess is wool)
Polishing with M82 (no pad specified, but I guess is the yellow foam pad)
    Wax with NXT

If you follow this process, how much probability do you have or really removing the buffer swirls and compound swirls? And how much probability do you have of just hiding everything and still leave the defects?

Not a Pro Detailer, but I have friends that own a body shop.
I think they use foam cutting pads with a compound, (Not sure it's #85), and they can leave an awfully good finish with just the compund. They do follow it, with another polish which I think has been #83 with a foam polishing pad.
Some people seem to almost work magic with a rotary.

        Re: What's your Opinion?

Today I checked with my friends at the body shop.
As my friend says, "This is his way", and while it works for him, it might not be right for everyone.
        1. All their polishing is with a rotary.
        2. They no longer use wool pads for anything. All foam.
        3. #85 is used with a foam cutting pad. It leaves a decent finish, but not really ready for wax.
        4. #83 with a polishing pad finishes up ready for wax except in very rare instances. If they aren't satisfied after the #83, they use #82 with a polishing pad.
        5. They don't do "wax" jobs, just paint & polish. Their comment about wax. No matter what wax you are using, someone always wants something different.

Plus body shops don't tend to apply waxes to fresh paint, nor even store waxe type products in or around the shop.

Body shops cut and polish and sometimes hand glaze to mask any remaining swirls.

The owner is pretty much on their own after that...
