I know some of you guys on here operate mobile detailing services. For those of you with portable water supplies, what's the smallest tank size you would recommend? I know there's a lot of factors involved, but in general, what would be considered dangerously small?

Re: Question for you mobile guys...
You need to determine what type of work you will be performing. Will you detail one small car a day or wash 15, etc...
You can do fine with a 50 gallon tank if you detail one or two vehicles a day. We usually stay under 100 (I have a 100 gal in the van) but some times need as much as 150 or so. I have DI tanks I carry on-board to convert tap water into spot free when we run out of water.
My trailer has a 250 gal tank and we had to fill that up twice to wash 91 vehicles for the L.A. Auto show. We did wash 10, 40 foot school buses with the 250 gal tank also.
So basicly 50 gallons for the small biz or part timer and 100-150 for the typical mobile rig.

Re: Question for you mobile guys...
In my opinion, as long as your truck can pull the weight, get a good sized tank. I went with a 100 gallon tank when I recently bought mine. Its better to have extra water at the end of the day than to get stuck at the job without water.

Re: Question for you mobile guys...
If I were to have a water tank can I just simply connect a hose from the water tank to my gas pressure washer? Or is there something else required to make this work? Sorry for hijacking this thread.Jesse

Thanks for all the info, everyone. If my detailing venture keeps growing like it has been, I'll soon upgrade using your suggestions. For now, Optimum No Rinse it is.
