Plagiarism – What can I do?

Plagiarism – copying what somebody else has written and passing it off as original.

It has been brought to my attention that a number (at least 5) mobile auto detailing web-sites have copied the words right off my web-site.

I am a high school drop out and dont read and write too good. So coming up with what I needed to have on my web-site to communicate to potetial clients was real hard for me.

I don't like the idea of other people taking it and using it.

One guy is just a few cities over.

What can I do about it?

Dont need to knock yourself.. Your stuff is written as well as anyone else's..

Legal stuff is out of my expertise though...

Aside from legal stuff, you might want to look at using Flash movies to do your website instead, as it makes it a lot tougher to steal text and images.

A local sound shop in my area; won't allow you to highlight the text. Also, no more right-click and stealing your images. Although it is still possible, imo it prevents a lot of it from happening.

My mother is an english teacher.


Anyway, this has happened to the owner of a site I frequent. Usually, the first step is to kindly point out the obvious plagiarism and to remove it. After that, it is up to you whether or not to pursue legal action and/or sending Chuck Norris over to his web hosting company.

Can you PM me the link of the site that copied your website? You might be able to take it up with the host of the website and/or the domain name registrar. They usually don't appreciate clients who use their domain names/web space to do anything illegal, and that includes plagiarism.

Wow, actually, the "theft of thought" is so bad I found at least 2 pages with the blatant ripoff, including the local one I believe Joe is talking about.

Joe, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" ....that's ****...someone thinks (or apparently can't on their own) that by copying your text that they'll be like you...we all know better...you're a "stud" in this business !

Your website look fine to me Joe.
Plagiarism is stealing. It's rampant in acadamia and even churches.
You can pursue legal but I do not know what to do from there.

Wow, that guy even copied the name of your company! I was able to find the guy by googling some text from your site.

You should post up the link to the place so everyone else on the forum can e-mail them and let them know what we think of his site. Your site is much better.. and obviously so is your business. He's not even in the same league as you.
