Hi, I am looking for a good detailer in the chicagoland area. I checked the phone book and there are so many. Does anyone have any recommendations. I have tried to get the swirl marks out of my car's finish and have not managed to get them all out. I need a pro.

Hi,
Man I would have loved your business when I was in Glen Ellyn, heck your right down the street. Sorry about not knowing another reputable detailer in the area and you are doing the correct research by asking here as the Yellow Pages can be scary. There was one guy in Naperville but like me here never advertised anywhere – word of mouth but I just can not remember his name. So sorry.

Whomever you use to insure they know what they are doing ask them to describe how they are going to get the swirls out and what they will use to do it.
The process they should describe is the following:
1. Rotary buffer at low speed with first a foam cutting pad.
If that does not work then a poly/wool blend cutting pad
(they should go to the more aggressive pad first rather
than a more aggressive compound).
The chemical should be a micro fine compound. If this
does not work even with the poly/wool blend pad, then,
and only then, should they use a light compound with
foam pad and if that does not work the poly/wool pad.
Important at this step they use a rotary buffer, not a dual
action tool or orbital, this tool cannot remove swirls or
scratches, only fill them, at best.
2. After the correction is made they should be using a Rotary
buffer with a foam polishing pad and, most important, a
swirl remover. Not a filler, but a remover, that is sufficient
abrasive to remove swirl marks left they the cutting pad
and compound.
If they use an dual action tool or an orbital at this step it
will not remove the swirls but only fill them.
3. The final step is the application of a paint sealant or wax
for final protection. This can be applied with an orbital; dual
action or by hand and removed similiarly.
If they describe any other process I think they do not know what they are doing.
