I have most anything needed to do a complete detail just looking for tips. I belive the paint is in pretty decent condition havent seen the car in a few weeks but when i saw it, it was dirty. Has never been through an automatic car wash. Any tips or info about this car would be great. Thanks. Greg.

i did a coat of M20 on a 530 black and it turned out good i can't say any thing about the paint i think it is soft though and you also have to wax the ppf if it has one

The BMW's I have worked on have had fairly medium hard paint, I did a dark blue X-5 and I took my time (about 9 hours) and it came out flawless, I used #80 sped glaze with a yellow 8000 polishing pad with my Dewalt rotary on 3, then I finished it with a coat of #21 synthetic sealant, I added a second coat of #21 the next day and it was gleaming. good luck and have fun.

I have found that the paint used on the early 90's 5 series tends to be much softer than the newer models. What model year will you be workng on?

welcome to the world of black bmw.
no sweat ! 80% of my clients drive black bmw,mb,vw,audi, and the like. most i see every 3 months. i strictly use #82 on an 8000 pad at about 1000 rpm, followed by m21 on a 9000 pad at about the same speed and then using the same 9000 pad without adding product, go over the car with a da. at speed 4 to 5.
go eat lunch, while 21 dries and use 2 microfiber wipes for each panel for removal. even after 3 weeks or several washes they still look like a mirror!
the tip about following a rotary with the da. came from my friend Rod Kraft, who hasn't let me down yet.
            good luck

I did a 2003 325xi last year that was black.
The paint was soft enough to be worked but not too soft.
              Actually nice to work with!

I used 8006 with da and #83 for the first pass then switched to #80 and went back over the whole thing again.
I topped it off with nxt wax if I remember correctly.

There's pics in the showoff section I believe.
