  • Orange County Professional?

I own a Black Mercedes 380SL recently painted by an uncaring paint shop, leaving heavy swirl marks in the overall paint. I'm looking for a local professional detailer to remove all the buffer swirls and finish off my car to look show room perfect.

Car was painted with PPG and a clear coat.

Is there such a professional in Orange County California and if so, how do I contact them please?

After reading all that is involved in doing the above work myself with a bad back, I'm not that interested in doing the work myself.

    TIA,

    Rabb

    Hi:

The first one that comes to mind is Joe at Superior Shine.

Not sure if he covers your area.

He has a web site so search the web for superiorshine.com and give him a call.

He is a member of this board so you can search it for some of his work, search with Superior Shine user name.

    Regards,

What part of orange county? If Joe can't make it, I probably can, depending on how far it is.

Thanks so far for the replies.

Joe works in the 626 area code which places my residence outside his working range, as I'm in the 714 area code.

My car is a 1981 Mercedes which garaged 95% of the time. Car is covered if parked away from my house.

Yes, I'm only interested in the exterior being polished. I can do the interior myself.

It is my primary driver and usually only goes out to the local stores, etc. but I do drive it to my other residence located in Santa Cruz County every couple of months.

I live in what is considered central Orange County, a few miles east of the Orange Crush or the 22, 5, 55 and 57 freeway interchange, in East Orange.

I have invested considerable amount money in paint having it painted twice in the last 3 years [was not happy with first attempt]. Car has Euro headlights, stock chromed wheels, new windshield and approximately 80% of chrome pieces replaced for maximum appearence luster.

Seems like the more the recent paint shop touches the car, the more screwed up the paint becomes, so I'm done with them.

Anyone else interested in helping me with my project, please respond here or send me a PM, thank you.

My other vehicle is a prestine 1972 Ford F-100 and can be seen in the recent issue of ClassicTruck Magazine.

It is its stock color of pastel yellow, semi stock 360 built to a 390 with a C6 3 speed trans.

Although the truck came stock with a tan interior, I didn't care for that color and changed it to be a black interior, with the interior door panels, headliner and bench seat being coverted to new black cloth upholstery.

Wheels are Cragar SS in stock size, all 5 of them.

Truck was never intentioned to be brought to show room quality when purchased some 14 years ago, I just liked the fact that it had no rust and through a DMV search, was discovered to be stored for some 20 years, hence the original mileage being under 50,000.

Truck in near final stages can be seen here:

Since these pictures were taken, the dash instrutment panel, the dash pad, grille inserts and many other parts have been replaced.

          Just my other vehicle,

          Rabb

Caught a peek of the Mercedes in there too! I like those versions of the SL's. Nice!
My car's so shiny I can see your car's swirls in its reflection.

Ah, gotta love Der Panzerwagen SLs, always a class act and an ideal ride for So Cal sunshine.

I don’t think you can go wrong here. I would totally trust George (gbackus) to do the job right. Joe (Superiorshine) is awesome. He’s based in the SGV but his site does have the note “Even though we primarily service the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles County California we will travel anywhere in the world for an additional fee.” I also seem to recall that he might be able to arrange for cars to be dropped off in his area.

Even though you'll have one of these guys do the buff out I would still recommend taking a Saturday class. That way you’ll learn how to keep their work in top condition. This weekend’s class looks full but there are others coming.

If the idea of doing it yourself is still lurking in the back of your mind you’ll get a chance to try a G-100 for yourself in class and get a feel for whether it’s something you want to try or not. (If getting into a Saturday class proves to be a scheduling problem I live pretty close to you. I might be able to drop by sometime with the G-100 so you can give it a spin.)

                    Thanks for all your feedback.

I've now spoken with Mike and George by fone.

My car is scheduled to be at Meguiar's this coming Saturday for inspection by those whom would like to answer my inquiry to bring it up to the standard of a wet look shine.

Joe, if you are in the area come Saturday, come look as well.

I'm looking forward to the process and especially with the end result. It should make for some great ~before and after~ pics for someone's portfolio.

I've learned much reading many of the posts here on MOL, thanks for the education gentlemen, I appreciate it very much.

A soon to be wet look shiny Black '81 380 SL.

Sorry I came late to the thread. Wow looks like you got a great team to work with.

I'd love to sit in and check on the progress of this car as well--having buffed out and restored several horrible condition cars lately--the '68 Camaro Extreme Makeover and the 2003 c230 Black Kompressor which was also butchered by a local paint shop.

                      Good luck!
